Have you seen the surreal sight of hundreds of teddy bear cacti gleaming softly in the sunlight at Joshua Tree's Cholla Cactus Garden? While they may look fuzzy from a distance, these plants are most assuredly not related to teddy bears: their furry appearance comes from the thicket of spines that cover the stems. Beware - though they are pretty to look at, you really don't want to touch them, especially accidentally.
"Using GuideAlong is the best way to get info while traveling through the NPS parks! Be sure to purchase and download prior to entering the park, service is scarce in most of it!"

📢 How to see Firefall in 2024 in Yosemite National Park.
Every year in late February thousands of visitors come to see a natural "firefall" at Horsetail Fall, where the waterfall glows orange when it's backlit by the sunset. If you're lucky enough to be here on a clear night and the waterfall is flowing, the falls appear to be set ablaze.
Due to its popularity, in 2024 day-use reservations are required to enter Yosemite National Park on February 10–11, February 17–19 and February 24-25. No reservations are required to enter the park on other dates in February, and visitors with in-park lodging, camping or vacation rental reservations don't need a day-use reservation.
If you don't already have a reservation, log in to recreation.gov at 8am two days prior to your desired date for a chance at the remaining 50% of day-use reservations.

Badlands National Park in South Dakota gets some incredible sunsets!
There are a lot of beautiful places to watch the sun set, but bearing witness to the radically changing colors of these formations as the sun drops off the edge of the horizon is an especially awe-inspiring experience. For many visitors, picking a spot along the Badlands Scenic Drive is the perfect way to enjoy a sundowner.

"Today was filled with exceptional beauty driving the Road to Hana in Maui. 64 miles, 620 turns, 59 bridges… and just 2 kids with motion sickness 😉. We spent 6 hours listening to the GuideAlong app narrate our drive, stopping for treats, waterfalls, scenic views, sunset swimming and a beautiful 4-mile hike. It was a perfect Hawaiian day!
If you ever find yourself on this drive, you can find lots of blogs about the best stops to make, but truly all that you need to follow is the GuideAlong app. I spent way too much time marking stops along our route, then didn’t even have cell service to find the spots."

We love hearing how you spend your time exploring with our audio tour!
"Just a glimpse of this incredible landscape! I was overwhelmed going in, but using GuideAlong made it easier to make a plan and made sure I didn't miss the highlights.
Seeing wildlife was a priority so I spent two mornings and one evening in Lamar Valley, which allowed me to see several wolves, a grizzly, and moose among countless bison and pronghorn."

For the drive between Madison and Norris in Yellowstone National Park, Gibbon Falls is our top waterfall choice. The falls form a nice ribbon and then make the 84-foot drop. It's another one of those great photo stops that we'll recommend as you're driving through the park.

Thermal features, wildlife, magnificent waterfalls - you will be impressed with Yellowstone!
The minimum recommended time to spend exploring Yellowstone is two days, but the park is so large and diverse you could easily spend a week here and still feel like you didn’t get to see everything you wanted to see! Or if you only have one day, try to stay at least one night inside the park so you can start your sightseeing first thing in the morning.

"We embarked on an epic road trip adventure to Grand Teton National Park. Our journey was unlike any other, thanks to a magical travel companion - GuideAlong 📱✨
Imagine a world where we didn’t have to worry about where to start or which trails to follow. With this app by our side, we were the masters of our destiny. We customized our own adventures, whether it was a half-day escapade or a full-blown exploration. 🗺️🌿
As we cruised through the picturesque landscapes, the app whispered tales of the wild, shared hidden gems, and kept us entertained with its location-based audio stories. Even when we ventured off the beaten path, the app had our backs. It worked offline and kept us in sync with the beauty of nature. 📶🏞️"

The Lower Falls is the biggest and mightiest waterfall in Yellowstone National Park, and was created by the the carving action of the Yellowstone River.
The aptly Brink of the Lower Falls is the best place to see the water plunging 308 feet over the brink, and if you time it right maybe you'll even catch a rainbow!

"I was 6 or 7 years old when I first learned about Mesa Verde. I was mesmerized by the Cliff dwellings, the people who had lived there and I always wanted to see them in person. So so thrilled to have made this little kid Kate dream come true and for it to happen with Todd and the kids 😍
💰 Various Fees from $FREE to 80. Check to see what you qualify for! But if you have a 4th grader you can go to National Parks for free! Look at the National Park site for details on the 4th grade pass.
TOURS REQUIRE AN ADDITIONAL TICKET:
🥾This is the Cliff Palace Tour. It’s a 30 minute tour, $8.00 a person and tickets need to be reserved 14 days in advance. Tours for 2023 are ending on September 14 (from what I can tell on the calendar).
🚘 The tickets are a timed, ranger led tour, and they don’t make exceptions for late arrivals. YOU WILL NEED AT LEAST AN HOUR TO AN HOUR AND A HALF TO GET FROM THE NATIONAL PARK ENTRANCE TO THE TOUR LOCATION!!
😵💫 We got to the visitor’s center an hour and a half before the tour like the tickets said to do and THEN realized we had goofed and had another hour long drive until we were at the tour destination. It was a wild 60 minutes of all my childhood dreams crashing. 🤣 We made it, but I’m here to save you from that mistake!
PRO TIP: Download the @guidealong app to really get the best audio tour available straight to your phone! We don’t travel National Parks without Guide Along with us (more to come in Guide Along later!!)"

Bison in Custer State Park, South Dakota
Custer State Park has one of the most popular scenic drives in the Black Hills, and it's a great place to catch glimpses of the wide array of wildlife that call this place home.
The largest animals are of course the bison, and the park is home to a herd of over 1,000. Other wildlife commonly seen here include deer, antelope, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk, and coyotes. But don't forget, it’s important that we stay in the vehicle! Even though some animals may come right up to the car, they aren’t tame, so don’t roll down your window to pet or feed them.

We love hearing about places that our audio tours have helped you find, that you otherwise would have missed!
"Yellowstone Lake sits at 7,730 feet above sea level and is the largest body of water in North America, and the second largest in the world sitting at that high of elevation!
And when you use the GuideAlong app, it will take you to a lookout that is absolutely not crowded! If you aren’t using the Guide Along app, you will probably miss this beautiful spot!"
