HAPPY NATIONAL DOLPHIN DAY!!!!!! It was almost 1 year ago that our team coordinated a rescue on 19 month old Fergie and saved his life from a fishing line entanglement! Pictured here, Fergie is now approaching 2 1/2 years old and will likely leave mom’s side in the next 6 months. Good chance that mom Skipper is about 6 months pregnant! What a great way to watch our dolphin population grow and what an honor for the 10,000 Islands Dolphin Study Project’s members to report the consistent health of our population and to assist in rescues like Fergie! Always something to do on Marco

As the many users of our app may have noticed, we have been undergoing some updates which meant we could not make any changes to our calendar features. But good news! We are making progress and iPhone users can now see the current "Weekly Live Music" schedule in the "Eat" section of the app. We have heard from our developers that access for Android users and the Events and Calendar sections on all platforms will not be far behind, but until then we will post all the information we get about the live music on and around Marco Island here.

WOO WOO!!!!! This is adult female Kaya playing with her son Ariel last February. Moments like this won’t happen again because……KAYA HAS A NEW BABY!!!! Ariel left mom’s side a month ago so Kaya could get ready for her new calf named VENTURE! Venture means “ to go forward with conviction, to take a risk”. Very appropriate for a dolphin calf. This is Kaya’s second, and Kaya’s mom Halfway, this is her third grand baby. Welcome to the world VENTURE!!!!!! dolphin-study.com

Hi Everyone. First of all, we want to thank you for your concern and well wishes after Hurricane Ian. We faired far better than our neighbors only 40miles up the coast - our thoughts are with those in and around Ft. Meyers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva and the other areas hit so hard.

We were fortunate that we did not get water in the house, but with 8-9ft storm surge it came very close. The dock & lift were completely submerged as were some of our external systems and we lost some panels out of the lanai roof and the landscaping was ravaged by the salt water.

As you can imagine, the local workers are inundated and there are those in far worse condition, so getting people to check and fix those issues is slow.

For those visiting this high-season, the house, pool and dock are fine, but we need to get the lift inspected before it can be used (but you can still tie-up to the dock) and we are waiting for 3 of the smaller lanai panels to be replaced. We will be down at the house for Thanksgiving to ensure everything is ship-shape and ready for guests.

Thank you for your ongoing patronage, both of Tropical Island Dream and the Marco Island area, it will help us all through the recovery.

Am upcoming refferendum attempts to ban short term rentals (less than 30 days). While the island will remain open and welcoming to snowbirds, it will make it very difficult for most families to take a 1 or 2 week vacation on the island. The handful of problem visitors to the island, typically weekenders, will spoil it for everyone.
Owners that depend on year round visitors will lose reservations for shorter rentals and may sell their homes depressing home values.
Local businesses will lose tourist revenue.
Hospitality workers may lose their jobs.
The city will lose tourism tax revenue.
Generally hurt the island economy.
Those most impacted, owners and hospitality workers, don't get to vote as they are not island residents.

Instead, enforce reasonable noise and behavior ordinances and hold those in breach, owners and visitors, responsible.

This is our chance to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
