TRAVEL TIP TUESDAY: Eagle County is A epicenter for "water-tainment!"
Rafting & Kayaking Rivers!
SAFTY NOTE: Life jackets are required by state law; helmets and cold-water clothing are strongly recommended.

Avon Whitewater Park: on the Eagle River under “Bob the Bridge," is a challenging 350-foot course features three optimized structures: Baby Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob Sr. ideal for beginning, intermediate, and advanced rafters, freestyle kayakers, canoeists, and paddle boarders.

The EAGLE RIVER starts near Tennessee Pass and flows through Minturn, Avon, Edwards and Gypsum before joining the Colorado River; the upper section features wild whitewater, and the lower section is family-friendly with tamer waters.

Vail Whitewater Park: Gore Creek is a popular Eagle County destination for rafters, kayakers, paddle-boarders, and river surfers with access beneath the International Bridge in Vail Village; it’s the whitewater course for the Summer Mountain Games and Vail Summer Whitewater Race Series.

I'm thinking our national Lucky Number should be 13! Read below to learn why.

Today June 14th is Flag Day! As an Eagle Scout I hang our flag today to honor the idea that we are one nation with many beliefs, ideas, hopes and dreams for our families and our country. We are One Nation Under God, Indivisible with Justice for All.
Should Flag Day be a national holiday?
Here is the "official" significance behind our annual observation: Today is the anniversary of June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress approved the design of a flag for the United States, which at the time featured 13 stars and 13 strips, representing the 13 colonies.

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: Mom’s charge and stomp to protect their young calfs; humans must keep their distance

It is Calving Season in Colorado. Moose, elk, and deer protect their younglings, and when I say protecting, I mean these moms are aggressive and attack people, leading to serious injuries.

STAY SAVE and ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS
1. Leave young wildlife alone. Adult animals often leave their newborns to forage for food.
2. DID YOU KNOW that baby mammals are born scentless, so predators can't find them? Touching them can remove their scentless armor, causing their parents to abandon them.
3. Be aware of the signs of aggression, which include laid-back ears, raised hairs on the neck, Curled lips and grinding teeth, licking of the snout. Additional danger signs include charging, kicking, circling, or following you.
4. Keep your dogs on a leash; elk, moose, and deer view them as predators and will act accordingly. Better yet, during calving season, leave them home.
5. DO NOT turn your back on aggressive wildlife. Back away, facing them, shoulders down, eyes up, and try to put an object between you and the animal - a tree, rock, or car!
6. You can zoom in with your smart phone or camera. USE IT! Your harmless need for the perfect photo is far less important than their need to protect their BABIES!

WILDLIFE WEDNESDAY: Wildflowers are my wife's favorite wildlife! Spend time strolling through one of my favorite Colorado gardens. Vail has the only botanic garden in North America dedicated to the preservation and conservation of alpine plant species and their associated habitats.

DISCOVER & PLAY Betty Ford Alpine Gardens a great place for families. From exploring the Children's Garden to playing in Betty's Market, the Gardens are a great place to bring kids and grandparents. The Education Center at the West End of Ford Park has a microscope discovery corner and is the starting point for the seasonal scavenger hunt, daily 10am-3pm.

Wander through the family-friendly Children’s Garden, and see vegetables grow. Then head to Betty’s Market, a realistic farmer’s market for kids. Families can enjoy the shade in rocking chairs perched over Gore Creek or head into the Schoolhouse Gift Shop to find garden-inspired keepsakes.

THE DISCOVERY CART embrace adventure by doing the daily Discovery Cart activity for the kids to do around the Children’s Garden. They are self-guided and encourage children to open their minds and discover something new about nature.

SELF-GUIDED TOURS grab a map of the Gardens at the entrance kiosks along; and, enjoy the winding pathways, informative panels, outdoor exhibit and alpine plants at your own pace.

SUMMER PUBLIC TOURS are Memorial Day - Labor Day on Monday, Thursday and Saturday from 10:30-11:30am. Arrive 10 minutes early to your guide at the Education Center. PRO TIP: Buy your ticket ($15 per person) beforehand to ensure your spot.

What is a BLUEBIRD SKI DAY?
If you ski in Colorado when the sun warms the sky as you’re waking up to fresh powder, no clouds, and you think you’ve never seen a prettier blue sky, and of course you strap on your skis for a day of downhill bliss, you have experienced a bluebird ski day!

Happiness is a Bluebird Ski Day! The only thing better is finishing your last run at 3pm at the bottom of the Continental Lift for hot chocolate cookies handed out free at Beaver Creek Mountain!

Then head to the Village to unwind after and participate in a skiing tradition as old as the sport itself, après ski (fun, food, and relaxation).

TRAVEL TIP THURSDAY: TOP FIVE Places to Experience Apres Ski!
There is nothing better than finishing your last run at 3pm at the bottom of the Continental Lift for hot chocolate cookies handed out free at Beaver Creek Mountain!
Then head to the Village to unwind after and participate in a skiing tradition as old as the sport itself, après ski (fun, food, and relaxation).

#5: Beaver Creek Ice Cream Parlour at the top of Haymeadow Express Gondola with views of the village from the mountain! Before your last run of the day, stop here for nostalgic ice cream novelties, hot chocolate, or a quick soup and sandwich lunch. Open till 3pm.
#4: Dusty Boot Roadhouse - Beaver Creek, with quick après snacks to full savory meals designed to re-energize you after a day on the mountain, is a family-friendly environment. My husband loves the beer list! The kid’s menu features mac and cheese, hambergers, and salmon dishes. For the table: carne asada street tacos and buffalo chicken-loaded totes!
#3: Coyote Cafe is the perfect place to enjoy their Apres Ski in the winter; just down the stairs from the Centennial lift, Apres Hour is from 3pm-6pm. Mexican Restaurant.
#2: C Bar, a spectacular slope-side sports bar that has an oyster bar with live music and views of Beaver Creek. The Apres menu includes crispy pork belly sliders, a charcuterie board, and yellowfin tuna poke.
#1: Black Diamond Bistro at Charter Steakhouse with ski-in access is within walking distance from Beaver Creek Village. For the over-21 crowd, we recommend trying the Katana, a vodka and green tea drink, or the Run Runaway with aged rum, tropical fruit, and ginger beer. For the younger folks, the Cantaloop, which has a ginger beer base with green tea, honey syrup, and plum bitters, is my son’s favorite. Need a small bit? Try these: turkey pot pie, Yuca Wedges with Dip Trio, and Caprese Flatbread. Apres-hour cocktails from 3-5pm.
