Start of the season Cobia!
The weather has turned for the better, with gorgeous, sunny days and no humidity. That means a start to a new fall season and fantastic fishing!
Fran was here on vacation from Colorado as we headed out for a day of offshore fishing. We picked an awesome day to be out on the water. Weather turned out to be ideal! The day started out with a few mangrove snapper and a nice sized barracuda (estimated at 15 lbs.). Then, the fishing heated up with a 37' cobia that hit a live pinfish. Soon afterwards, another larger cobia hit, and Fran was hooked up again. That fish turned out to be a 39' cobia. What a great day!

We had a fun charter today. The crew caught a few different species of fish, including Mangrove Snapper, Seatrout, and they even fought a couple of blacktip sharks. The sharks were in the 10 to 15 lb. size range. A nice dinner of snapper and trout filets were to be had.

Thanks for a great day on the water!

The crew had a fun and productive day in the back country. It was a bit windy to go out to the reef, so we hit the shallow water and were able to put together a nice catch of mangrove snapper. They caught some seatrout and hard fighting jack crevalle as well.

Cobia mania! It was an amazing day on the reef. We caught 4 nice sized cobia that ranged from 12 to 23 lbs. All were great fighters as they sizzled line off the reels. Live shrimp and pinfish were the ticket today. Every fish we caught had 2 or 3 more cobia following. It's awesome to see a ton of fish and sea-life on the local reefs after the hurricane.

Steve joined me for some near shore reef fishing. We ventured out to fish shipwrecks, rock piles, ledges, and other artificial reef structures, just off the coast. These are pictures from two separate trips. The most recent trip was all about the sheepshead. They were really hitting and we managed 7 nice keepers, along with a few grunts and mangrove snappers. The largest was a 20 inch, 3 lb. beauty! Steve barely got it in as a huge Goliath Grouper chased after it all the way to the boat! Unreal! The monster grouper was easily 150 lbs. if not larger! We were sure happy that he didn't grab that sheepy for a scooby snack! On the 2nd trip he caught a bunch of delicious and nice sized Mangos. Thanks for the great times Steve. See you again soon.

Snook bite on the near shore reefs! We caught 5 beautiful snook today. They ranged from 25 to 36 inches and were some awesome fighting fish. Several took long, searing runs, ripping drag from the reel. Lost one near the boat that would have easily gone 20+ lbs. Also caught some cool spadefish, mangrove snapper, grunts and sheepshead.

Thank you,
Capt Cook

The guys crushed the Cobia today! Travis, Matt and Jay joined us for an awesome day of near shore fishing. We started off trying some rock piles and a shallow water shipwreck that turned out to be the cobia honey hole! Each fish sizzled the reels drag and gave a hard charging battle of 20 to 30 minutes. Wow, what a day!

Thank you,

Took the fellas out for some back country fishing near Ft Myers Beach and the Bunche beach area. We didn't know what to expect so soon after hurricane Ian. It turned out to be an awesome day. The guys caught several snook, sea trout, mangrove snapper, ladyfish and even a beautiful schoolmaster snapper. It sure was great to be out on the water! As the clean up progresses around here, the fishing will improve steadily and we are looking forward to the upcoming season.

Thank you,

Alayna, Travis, Isaac, and Nolan joined us today for a fun day of back country fishing. They caught lots of snapper, grouper, snook, and seatrout. Highlights of the day included Travis catching a nice sized snook near Sanibel Island and wade fishing next to and around the smaller islands in the area. He also managed to catch a cute little puffer fish too. Alayna, Isaac and Nolan caught a bunch of snappers and a few grouper, with everyone having an awesome day on the water! To cap it off, there were plenty of tasty fresh snapper filets to take home for dinner. Thank you for a super exciting day guys.

Chanel and Marcus were aboard and enjoyed a fantastic day on the water! We caught a nice variety of species, including snook, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, and spotted seatrout. One of the highlights of the day was catching a beautiful snook near a mangrove patch. What a fun fight. They were also able to catch their limit of tasty mangrove snappers. A nice batch of fresh filets were taken back home for an amazing dinner with their family. We also ran across a lost iguana that managed to be swimming right in the middle of the busy miserable mile area. So, we decided to give it a lift to shore. What a cool reptile. Super fun day out there! Thanks so much and I hope to see y'all next year.

Todd, Benjamin, Verity, Ethan, and Miriam came aboard for an awesome day of back country fishing! We started out catching lots of nice mangrove snapper and a few decent gag grouper. Then, the bite really started to heat up. We caught many species, including Spanish mackerel, snook, redfish and a huge tarpon. 2 really nice redfish were brought boat side, along with some incredible action on lots of very nice sized snook. The tarpon was a surprise, as it was hooked straight below the boat and did a dazzling jumping display right in front of us! We had to drop the anchor and chase the beast, as it was about to spool the reel! Todd's son hooked the monster fish and he ended up giving the rod to Todd where he fought that tarpon for over 30 minutes. What a great team effort! Wow, what an epic day! Thanks so much guys. Hope to see you next season for another amazing day on the water!

Tyler and Renee travelled to SWFL for a fun vacation and came out for a day of saltwater fishing. It was rather windy, so we decided to head over to the Tarpon Bay area for some protection from the elements. It was a great resolution as we found some hungry snook, gag groupers, mangrove snappers, and one very nice sized Spanish mackerel.
Renee was the high hook for the day as she caught several hard fighting snook, a couple of snappers, and 2 beautiful gag groupers. They would've caught many more if it wasn't for the hard charging grouper rocking us up a few times. Tyler caught a few mangos as well as the rippin' fast mackerel. What an awesome fight they are!
Thanks so much for joining us today and hope to see you guys in the future.

Kathleen and Ida joined Captain Cook for a fun day of reef fishing. We were only about 7 miles off the coast of Sanibel Island, near the public artificial reef deployment sites. It was action packed as we caught all sorts of cool species such as sheepshead, grunts, mangrove snappers, gag and red groupers, and a big snook. The snook was an awesome surprise that was caught from a shipwreck site.
Another highlight of the trip was when Ida said, "what's that huge thing swimming down there?" It turned out to be a nice sized hammerhead shark (5 feet in length) that swam directly under our boat! She immediately asked, "can we try to catch it?" However, another nearby boat hooked the shark and briefly fought it before breaking their line!
Thanks to Kathleen and Ida for making it a fantastic day on the water. Fun times for all!

Dave and his family drove down from upstate New York for a little R + R and a full day of offshore fishing in SWFL. We hit a few near shore reefs and caught some mangrove snapper, sand perch, Key West grunts, red grouper and triggerfish.
The fishing was a bit slow, so we all decided to go for broke and head way offshore to fish the Stoney Brook and Fantastico wrecks. The Fantastico was a 200 ft Honduran freighter ship that sank in the Gulf of Mexico in March of 1993. The location is approximately 50 miles off the west coast of Fort Myers, Florida and is about 110 feet deep. As we arrived, the depth finder lit up like a Christmas tree as there were fish everywhere from top to bottom of the water column! Excitement was rampant aboard our vessel as we could see vast schools of barracuda roaming the out skirts of the wreck. It was so cool to see such an abundance of marine life out in the deep blue!
We all dropped down live pinfish and squid strips. Oddly enough, the squid wasn't producing, but there were plenty of strikes on the live baits. There were tons of chances on good sized fish, but the toothy critters (a.k.a. the taxmen) weren't letting that happen as the sharks and barracudas made mincemeat of whatever we hooked. A nice 10 lb. barracuda offered a great fight and hit the deck shortly.
All of a sudden, we hooked a sea monster! It was so big that we had to chase it down with the boat. 3 separate anglers wore themselves out fighting the fish for almost 45 minutes. Eventually, after following the fish for over a half mile, we all understand that we were outgunned by the massive fish. The decision was made to break it off and whatever it was will be there for next time! We thought it may have been a huge Goliath Grouper at first since it fought so methodically along the bottom, but soon realized it must have been a monster shark!
It was a fun filled day with an awesome group of people. Thanks to Dave and his cool family for making it a day I'll never forget!

Jaime and Percy joined us for a father and son day on the sea. It was perfect weather with only 5 mph winds. So, we ventured out to a few artificial reefs and shipwrecks just off the coast of Sanibel Island.
Highlight fish of the day included a couple of jumbo Sheepshead, grouper, lots of Key West Grunts, a few mangrove snappers, some smaller sheepshead, and a hard fighting Bonito to round out the day. Capt Percy took over the wheel for a little while as we headed towards shore.

Thanks for making some great memories.

Fly fishing adventure! Blake travelled down from colorful Colorado for a few days of saltwater fishing. We fished around the back side of Sanibel Island and in Pine Island Sound. The snook weren't cooperating, however, he was able to catch some mangrove snapper and nice spotted seatrout on the fly. The weather was so awesome, that we decided to hit the near shore artificial reefs and wrecks for some monster Barracuda that frequent the area. He had a great chance on a 20 to 25 lb. 'cuda that cruised right up to the boat. What a sight! He had a take on that big fish, but it just wasn't meant to be. We'll get 'em next time
