Waterfalls on a Rainy Day Hike at the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve 🥾🌧️
Even sun-seekers will love the waterfall-filled hikes on rainy days at the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve 🥾🌧️
When the rain comes, Table Mountain is the place to be, as the underlying basalt rock holds onto all that water, resulting in stunning vernal pools and dramatic waterfalls like the fleeting, but spectacular, Phantom Falls. It’s a time of year that gets less attention than the spring wildflower season, but one that is just as beautiful and special in its own way.
Remember, North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve is an ecologically sensitive area. Do your part as a responsible visitor and help keep this clean and accessible to everyone with these tips:
⭐ #RecreateResponsibly and follow Leave No Trace principles
👉 Buy your CDFW Lands Pass before your visit
👉 Stay on established trails
👉 Take pictures OF wildflowers, not IN wildflowers, and do not pick them
👉 Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, and hike with a buddy
👉 Respect the wildlife and give a wide berth to grazing cattle
👉 Drones are not allowed without an official permit from CDFW

Make 2025 Your Year of Discovery in Butte County! 🥾 🛶⛰️🌲🌊
Make 2025 your year of discovery in Butte County! 🥾 🛶⛰️🌲🌊
Just 90 minutes from Sacramento, discover a region where outdoor wonders meet small-town charm. Whether you're seeking scenic trails, waterfront adventures, or hidden local treasures, make 2025 the year you explore everything Butte County has to offer.
So gear up, pack your camera, and get ready to explore Butte County all year round. Here are a few of our favorites to start:
🪻 Phantom Falls at North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve
📍 Oroville
🥾 4.2 miles out-and-back
While the North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve features several waterfalls to discover, Phantom Falls is its most popular. The hike to the seasonal waterfall is dotted with runoff waterfalls after heavy rains, surrounded by iconic wildflowers in the spring, and opens up to a panoramic view of Coal Canyon. It’s the perfect place to take in the beauty and snap a few postcard-worthy photos.
🛶 Paradise Lake
📍 Magalia on the Paradise Ridge
🥾 9 miles out-and-back
The easy, flat trail is perfect for hiking and biking, and features some of the best views of the lake itself. With plenty of shade, it’s perfect for all experience levels. Prefer to get on the water? Bring your kayak or canoe and get ready for a relaxing, picturesque paddle.
⛰️ North Rim Trail
📍 Chico
🥾 8.4 mile out-and-back
One of the longest trails in Upper Bidwell Park, and a gateway to a variety of different loop options, North Rim Trail is a worthwhile trail on its own. As it runs parallel to the edge of the park, you’ll get sweeping views of the park in all directions as you gain elevation, including a rocky look-out point at the trail’s end.
From breathtaking trails to unforgettable moments, there’s no better way to make 2025 a year to remember than to Explore Butte County!

Explore a Rainy Upper Bidwell Park in Chico, California 🌧️🥾🌈
Exploring Upper Bidwell Park after heavy rains is something to behold 🌧️🥾🌈
Big Chico Creek rushes with water, the pops of green grass hold the promise of spring, and usually dry waterfalls come to life thanks to the iconic Lovejoy basalt. If you’re willing to get a little muddy, it’s a hike that won’t disappoint.
