Paraty is a very old, charming colonial town on the Green Coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, about 140 miles from the City of Rio. Founded in 1667, it is rich with history and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2019. A visit to Paraty while in Rio is highly recommended! There is so much to do and see there. The Historic Center District has cobblestone streets and no motor vehicles are permitted on them.
Maybe the coolest feature of Paraty is that once a month, when the moon is 🌕 full and the tide is high, the sea water rises above its normal levels and 🌊 pours into the streets of the Historic Center District through openings in the seawalls at the harbor. The streets are flooded for a short time until the tide recedes. This is how the streets are washed! An amazing sight to see.

The construction of the Rio-Niterói Bridge involved numerous difficulties and also spawned rumors, myths and stories.
According to newspapers and magazines at the time, 32 people died during the construction process, although the number is believed to be much higher.
Journalist Romildo Guerrante, who covered the construction of the Rio-Niterói bridge, says that reports were made but never published: censorship prevented newspapers from publishing about accidents and deaths.
“Several workers died. In one of the accidents, I remember well, 12 people died, including an engineer. As research in the Jornal do Brasil of the National Library confirms, the accident took place on March 25, 1970, that is, one year after the beginning of the works.”
Since then, stories about the construction have circulated. The best known legend is that workers would have been concreted together with the pillars that support the bridge. The technique used to build the work – the so-called tubulões – was still rare in Brazil. Guerrante supposes that this could be one of the factors that caused the successive accidents.
The pipe, for civil engineering, consists of a hollow tube that is then coated with reinforced concrete. The base needs to be widened to give greater stability. It is in this widening process that the workers enter and work inside the tube; phase in which accidents possibly occurred.
The death of the concrete workers was not a legend. In that censored accident in which 12 people died, the tube ruptured violently. There was no chance for whoever was inside. What is known is that the bodies were not rescued, as the concrete covered everything – says the journalist.

Rio de Janeiro has the most beautiful sunrises in the world AND the most beautiful sunsets in the world. Incredibly, you can see both from the same beach! 🌅🌄

Today the city of Rio de Janeiro celebrates its 457th birthday!! 🎉
The Portuguese first arrived in the Guanabara Bay on January 1, 1502, and thinking it was the mouth of a river, called it "River of January" - Rio de Janeiro in Portuguese.
Rio de Janeiro was officially founded on March 1, 1565, when King Sebastian of Portugal sent his army captain Estácio de Sá to what was then known as the Portuguese colony of Brazil, to fight for possession of the land against the French.
The French had been occupying the territory around the Guanabara Bay with the blessings of the legendary indigenous leader of the Tamoio tribes, Cunhambebe.
The Portuguese succeeded in expelling the French and assuming control of the territory, and the city of Rio de Janeiro was born. 🎂
