Milford Mill, Thomas’ Flour, Thomas Grist Mill, Lowrey Mill located along the Delaware River in Milford, NJ. Rebuilt by Col. Thomas Lowrey in 1798/1799. The stone mill building next to the bridge still stands. The other buildings where a saw mill. No doubt taking advantage of the river rafting lumber industry of the day. The gravel bars in the river south of the Upper Black Eddy-Milford bridge are known as the Lowreytown Bars. Taking their name from Lowreytown, which was one of the many former names of Milford, NJ PC- Rob Castagna Milford Borough Historical Society

1903 “The Great Pumpkin Flood” Part 2: The two lost spans were replaced by steel spans while the remaining wooden spans stayed in use. This work took almost a year to complete. The ferry was put back into service to get people across the river. This half wood and half steel bridge was used until 1929. In 1931 the entire bridge was replaced with the Warren truss structure that we know and love today.

1903 “The Great Pumpkin Flood” Part 1: Still holding the #2 spot at Frenchtown for historical crests at 24.4 feet. ( #1 is 1955 at 27.79) The so called Great Pumpkin Flood due to the pumpkins that got washed away from fields were seen floating down the river. Most bridges in the area sustained damage. đź“· Digital window to the past. During the flood of 1955 helicopters were used to rescue young campers on the various river islands that were used as camps. Campers were flown to Erwinna or Frenchtown. Frenchtown High school was used as an assembly point for rescued campers providing food, shelter, and entertainment before being bussed back to their home towns and much worried parents.
