I left for a 4-day trip to a wellness resort, and the emotions leading up to it spanned from excited to stressed, to guilt. Yes, guilt. I felt guilty for taking this time for myself, as if I were abandoning my duties as a mom and a business owner. Who has time for four days—especially four days unplugged? Anxiety crept in, whispering, “Maybe you should reschedule for a time when life isn’t so chaotic.”
But then, as I arrived and began to immerse myself in this oasis of tranquility, those worries melted away. I remembered why I had chosen this retreat: to reconnect with the person I’ve been neglecting amidst the endless whirlwind of responsibilities. For the first time in what felt like ages, I took time to breathe deeply, meditate, and embrace stillness. I felt like a new person, a version of myself I hadn’t seen in a while.
Why do I always let myself get burnt out before realizing I need this? When we prioritize our own well-being, we’re not abandoning our loved ones or our goals; we’re actually investing in them. A well-rested mind can think clearer, a rejuvenated soul can nurture deeply, and a healthy body can carry the weight of our dreams.
So, here is my promise to myself: I will prioritize self-care, even when the chaos of life tries to pull me back in. I will give myself permission to recharge because only then can I show up fully for my family and my business.
Here’s to making self-prioritization a daily habit, not a rare escape.

📝 Write, Rewrite, Repeat: Write a sh*tty first draft. Then be ready to revise, polish, and sometimes even start over to create something truly remarkable.
💫 Build Your Author Platform: Connect with your readers and share your journey.
📚 Learned the Self-Publishing Process: From formatting to cover design and distribution. Educate yourself on the ins and outs of getting your book out there and marketing it.
💪🏻 Stay Resilient: There will be many obstacles and moments of doubt. Keep pushing forward because the world needs your story.
Becoming a published author is more than just writing. And while it may look easy, as most things do when looking at someone at the finish line vs the starting line, just know it takes practice, dedication, and the ability to push through even on the hard days.

I think this writing thing can get in your head.
I find myself constantly waiting to hear back from someone else to tell me they love my book, want to buy it, or want to review it. And if those things don’t happen I find myself questioning my ability as a writer.
