lowstone National Park Vintage Artwork is a page dedicated to the art and photography of Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park was established by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872 and was the first national park in the world. The park is named after the yellow colored rocks along the walls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone where the Yellowstone River flows through the park. The park mainly spans the state of Wyoming but is also in parts of Montana and Idaho. It spans 3,468 square miles comprising of lakes, canyons, rivers, forests, grasslands, and mountain ranges. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest super-volcano on the continent. Half of the world's geothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by the ongoing volcanism. There are many different kinds of wildlife species that live within the park including black bears, grizzly bears, elk, deer, moose, bison, and wolves. There are also over 1,700 species of trees and other vascular plants that are native to Yellowstone. Forests comprise 80 percent of the land area of the park, while the other 20 percent is mostly grassland. Yellowstone is well known for its vast array of geysers, with Old Faithful being the most popular and recognized since it erupts approximately every 91 minutes. Although Old Faithful is the most popular geyser in the park, it is not the largest, with Steamboat Geyser holding the honor of being the largest geyser in the world. Yellowstone is one of the most popular national parks in the United States and receives at least two million visitors a year. Visitors to the park enjoy many recreational activities including hiking, camping, boating, fishing, and sightseeing.
