Hello all! I haven't been great about sharing retreaters at Crossley Hideaway lately but a big thanks to Tammy & her ladies who were here this weekend!
We will have had 22 groups end of December...not bad for my first year back:)

Hope it’s been a reasonable Monday friends!

It’s 68*, cloudy, & drizzly but here at www.instagram.com/crossleymanor I’m still basking in the glow of an “old girlfriend” week in Waco 🙌🏻

We may have brutal summers but the mild winters compensate:)

So why a winter wreath when it’s
not likely to snow here?

Well technically it’s winter...at least according to the calendar😏

I embellished this wreath a couple of years ago with yarn covered balls.

It’s just a wreath right?

Nope, it’s more.

It’s a festive greeting to welcome visitors...and I do have guests fairly often!

I’m a people gatherer, a southern hostess who can serve you barbque on paper plates, or Italian cream chicken in sparkly bowls😏

My momma taught me everything I needed to know about entertaining.

She’s the real deal since I dabble in paper plates more than real dishes😉

And does it even matter?

Not more than people feeling welcome, comfortable, and well fed like we do here in the south🤣

So just a wreath?

Nope.
It’s a seasonal welcome committee❄️

Sometimes it’s good to look around home & find greater meaning in surroundings.

You just might find a bit of joy you were missing.

Like my yarn wrapped styrofoam balls & a winter saying that has virtually no relevance in my climate❄️🤣❄️

Hi Ladies!
Hope everyone is having a relaxing lead into Christmas...haha.
Is that even possible?
We continue simplifying Christmas in our family and everyone is less stressed and less broke:)
If you need a last minute creative gift, these tote bags were super easy!
Fabric paint with a 12x12 stencil, iron on letters and ribbon...done!

Have a group of quilters from Louisiana at Crossley Hideaway! They have been very complimentary & are already looking at dates to come again:)
I captured just a few of their current & recent past projects...
Halloween bags, Christmas throw quilt, Christmas pillow cases, quilt blocks, floral hanging, plus don’t you love those handy pockets on the sewing machine pads!
And isn’t that Malificent quilt amazing! I took a screen shot from her phone which could never do it justice.
Love seeing creativity...it’s one of my happy places:)

This....

Autumn whispered to the wind, “I fall but always rise again.”

This quote was quite meaningful to me last year when I created this fall canvas piece.

We had just come to the realization that completing the move to Dallas to live by children & grandchildren was no longer feasible for a multitude of reasons. We packed the 3rd of our belongings we had moved there back up again & put the Dallas house up for sale.

I grieved for weeks.

And now, a year later?

This quote feels essential to physical, mental & emotional survival especially in this beastly year of 2020!

I’ve mostly made peace with our circumstance and am currently trying to completely eliminate the phrase “we are stuck here” from my thoughts.

When pulling this canvas out of the fall decor bin I was reminded it is always a determination, a choice to rise again.

Surround yourself with inspiration.

My mom had a wall of quotes. Now I know why.

Life gets complicated & overwhelming. Things don’t go our way.

Life is also tender & sweet. Compensations are there if you look.

Search in high & holy places for the hope & strength to keep going.

Be the one who always rises again🍁🍁🍁

Pumpkins from the dollar store, & silk sari ribbon from sari scraps in India to create the rosettes...

Artist level- elementary.
This is mine...isn’t it beautiful?!

Thinking about calling my mom for show & tell:)

Seriously, when did we become a nation of “experts” where small victories & all talent levels are not exuberantly celebrated?

As I teach “art” to 4 of my grandchildren for their homeschool program, I purposefully do not show them the finished example on Pinterest.

Why?

I want them to learn basic art elements & then create their version.

Now granted, Scarlett the crafty maverick might have to be reigned in just a tad so she actually completes the assigned projects thus learning the art elements🤣

However outside of basic principles let them create!

While I am re-learning & creating art along side the blonde mob, my inner child is finding sweet delight in my efforts...something I might have forgotten along the way.

Adulting is highly overrated at best, so break out the old fashioned Elmer’s glue & chalk pastels my friends...find simple joy in the journey again🍁🍁🍁
