Thank God we do not need the federal government’s permission to celebrate Black history, our Black cultural heritage and our Black leaders and ancestors who made and continue to make significant contributions to this country.

Although they stake a claim, live and work in the White House, they can never erase the fact that it was Black laborers that built it! Our stories will never be erased because Black tour operators across this country live and breathe life into preserving and telling the stories of America’s rich Black cultural heritage. They tell the stories of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s legacy and the civil rights movement daily. Black cultural organizations and communities have been celebrating Juneteenth long before it became a national holiday.

We won’t stop so this administration better get it’s knee off our necks as Rev. Al Sharpton exclaimed during his eulogy for George Floyd. Check out this feature.

Happy Juneteenth!

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history. Juneteenth marks the moment on June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. This day stands as a testament to the enduring struggle for freedom and equality.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration; it is a time for reflection and recognition of the profound impact of African American history and culture on our nation. It reminds us of the importance of acknowledging the past, understanding the ongoing journey toward equality, and committing to a future where freedom and justice are truly for all.

Let us honor the resilience and contributions of African Americans and recommit to the principles of justice, equality, and unity. Together, we can build a more inclusive and understanding society. Happy Juneteenth to all!
