Happy Halloween! Did you know that Halloween has many associations with Ireland? One such myth is that Halloween has its origins in Oweynagat, or the Cave of the Cats outside of Roscommon, Ireland. Also known as the Gate to Hell, legend has it that once a year, on Halloween, the gate is weakened allowing spirits to emerge and wander with the living. Those on this side of the gate dressed up in order to "blend in" and be left alone. What do you think? 👻👿🙀 🎃🎃

Did you know that by some accounts there are 172 dolmens (or portal tombs) in Ireland dating from between 5500 to 2500 BC? Very few of these have been excavated and those that have sometimes revealed bones and other burial items, leading to speculation that dolmens were used for burial rituals or other ceremonial purposes. But just how did they get those capstones on top and how are they still standing?? 🤔🤔 ☘️

Did you know that May 1st is Bealtaine in Ireland? Marking the beginning of summer, Bealtaine is steeped in ancient Celtic tradition. It's a time when bonfires blazed across the countryside, symbolizing purification and protection. Communities gathered to dance around the flames, sharing in festivities that honor fertility and the renewal of the land. 🔥 On a more mundane level, it marked the day the cattle were driven to pasture for the summer. 🐃🐮Today, Bealtaine is still celebrated nationally across Ireland during the entire month of May, with festivals and events taking place from Di**le to Galway to Tipperary. If you'd rather celebrate in the more traditional manner, however, you can still find a good bonfire at the Hill of Uisneach's Fire Festival shown below. Now we think that's the proper way to connect with your inner Druid! 🧙💚
