Not like that now!!

A trip back in time... to air travel and in-flight meals in the 1960's.

Those were the days with Lufthansa.... 😁

No concentrated orange juice and "something" with a lettuce leaf here... it's Fassbier and Schinkenhäger, draft beer and Schnaps, with ham hock. And is that Pumpernickel on the plate?

Video of most of the roads we used through the countryside. Yes, two lane roads. On our Smugglers tour we also visited several other coastal "pirate" coves. Polperra, Fowey and Charleston. It was such a fantastic scenic day.

We did a day tour called "Smugglers Tour" since Penzance and these coastal towns were hideouts for pirates. This was the Jamaica Inn and museum.

Random pictures of our week in Cornwall. One day we visited St Michael's Mount castle. It was an endurance test to hike up there on a very uneven rocky path but I made it there and back down.

We have been busy the past couple of days so will post a little at a time. Ancestral church St. Maddern's Madron parish in Penzance. Medieval magnificence. About 3+ generations here.

Even though weather was a little windy and rainy today I had a great day. On the way to library we walked down Victoria Place "street" where ancestors lived in Penzance and at library had some help finding the address for the "public house" (tavern/inn) they had at least as far back as 1830 maybe earlier since 1830 is when it was inherited by next generation. It was called the Cornish Arms at that time.

Made it to Plymouth where my ancestor was married at St Andrew's church in 1839. The church was heavily bombed during the war but a few things (walls, support columns among a few other things) were left. So not quite the exact same but in the same location and the lady we met told us some lovely stories.

We also found at the libraries old maps that we were able to see where they lived around the church. And then we did a boat ride out of the harbor to experience the feeling of leaving like they did. Wonderful experience.

I have to say pretty impressed with how easy it is to get around in London on public transportation. We stayed near Paddington Station and was able to walk there and get around the city fairly easy. As tourists we were pretty gullible one day by this clock near the station. A man inside the clock cleaning it We thought??? Then it looked like he would wipe away the minute hand to redraw it one slight minute more?? Wow we went on our way. Come to find out later it was an "art project"

A Tracht for Tuesday... Schwarzwald, Black Forest, Tracht, although probably not what you are used to seeing.

From 12th century Furtwangen, a small Black Forest town famous for its centuries of clockmaking, among other differences women and girls wear a straw top hat.

A Schwarzwälder Bollenhut, with its woollen pompoms, is only worn in three Black Forest villages, Gutach, Kirnbach and Hornberg-Reichenbach.

Furtwangen is on "Die Deutsche Uhrenstraße", following in the footsteps of the Black Forest's clockmakers. The Schwarzwälder clock industry began with the first cuckoo clock in 1730, and the German Clock Route runs from the central Black Forest through the southern Black Forest to Baar.
