Rockingham County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) is excited to announce its acceptance of $10,000 from The Duke Energy Foundation for the grant application Enhancing Safety and Accessibility Along the Smith River. This funding will go towards constructing a new river access on the Smith River in the Eden area of Rockingham County.

Did you know...kayaking and canoeing are not just warm weather sports?!?! In fact, the Mighty Mayo River trip, which takes place the 3rd weekend in January, has been inviting boaters to venture into the frigid, winter waters of the Mayo River for 20 years! This year, to help celebrate the many years of dedication and stewardship, the MMRT is also adding a one mile hike for those who prefer to keep their feet dry and planted on the ground!

Are you ready to take the polar plunge? Join us this Saturday, January 18th starting at 9:30 am at Stoneville Memorial Park.
- ALL Boaters and Hikers meet at Stoneville Memorial Park at 9:30 am (Don’t forget to stop by Debbie’s Restaurant for a famous Cathead Biscuit!)
- Ranger-Led Hike to Byrd’s Ledge & Litter Clean-Up - Anglin Mill Access/Mayo Beach Access, Mayo River State Park (Boaters will be entering the Boiling Hole rapid around 2:00 pm!)
- Potluck Social at Anglin Mill/Mayo Beach Access, Mayo River State Park

Participants are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to Lot 2540.
