Music Therapy is the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional in order to achieve measurable non-musical outcomes in communication, cognition and learning, psychosocial adjustments, motor, and sensory processing. A Board Certified Music Therapist uses music interventions such as singing, movement, instrument playing, listening, improvising, and song writing to help children reach th

eir individual goals. Music To Grow On was established in 2000 to provide Music Therapy services to children with special needs. It is now expanding to offer more services including Mommy and Me groups, mixed ability groups, individual sessions, and music lessons.

We welcomed Mizuki Asano as Music Therapy Intern in September. We are looking forward to seeing her soar during her time with Music To Grow On.

Mizuki Asano (she/her) is a Kansas native (yes, she is aware that she is “not in Kansas anymore!!”). She completed her coursework in Music Therapy, BMUS, and Psychology, BS at Arizona State University in May 2024. During her practicum experiences, she worked with older adults with dementia, adults with developmental/intellectual disabilities, adult and adolescent patients at a behavioral health hospital, and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Down Syndrome. As a double major in music therapy and psychology, she spent most of her projects focusing on how music therapy could be incorporated into a topic in psychology. In her free time, you can find her doing yoga, trying to read a book, or crocheting!

As an intern at Music To Grow On, Mizuki is excited to work with various clients while gaining experience as a music therapist and getting to know the Sacramento area.

We have been remiss in doing some welcomes to Music To Grow On. First of all we would like to introduce Celeste Carranza to our therapist team. Celeste completed her internship at Music To Grow On and completed her music therapy degree at University of the Pacific. We are excited to have her join our team.
