So you've drifted above a verdant valley while standing inside a wicker gondola? A gondola held aloft by the colorful envelope — or balloon, if you please — just above your head? Then you know that a gentle wind can take you in almost any direction, instantly giving you fresh views of new lakes, streams, vineyards, and mountains. Likewise, a famous balloon-centered festival can also move, and looking for it in the place you thought it might be might leave you searching. But fans won't have to search too far to find the Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival on the calendar: It takes place near the middle of May. True, many lovers of the alfresco affair have come to think of it as an early June gathering, but you won't want to wait if you'd like to attend: It's set to float, and raise a glass, and sup on splendid snacks, too, from May 19 through 21, 2023.

BALLOON RIDES, especially those that lift off near or just after dawn, are popular choices, so if this tempts you'll want to sign up soon (they're an additional fee and aren't included with admission). Morning balloon tethers are also an uplifting option, as are the illuminated balloon glows (yep, those are a post-sunset sensation). As for the concert scene? Attendees will find two rocking, tune-strong stages adorning the festival grounds with REO Speedwagon, Brad Paisley, and Scotty McCreery serving as the headliners. Beer and wine tastings remain popular must-dos at the fest, with several regional spots expected to line up the bottles (Coyote Oaks Winery, Ramona Ranch, and Stone Church Brewing will all participate). By the by, this decades-spanning tradition began 40 years ago, in 1983, making the 2023 party especially celebratory. Cheers to you, Temecula Valley Balloon & Wine Festival, and here's to 40 more!

The sparkling celebration, which also features entertainment and food, began four decades ago.

today should be no surprise! We have literally used several photos featuring him to promote this year's event. Nathan Hammond GhostWriter Airshows is returning to Battle Creek! To prove how in-demand of an act he is, we thought we'd share a photo of his schedule for this air show season. Tons of terrific shows on there (with the one that has the most awesome fans in the upper left corner!)

Nathan will be performing amazing aerobatics with an incredible smoke system in his deHavilland Super Chipmunk known as "GhostWriter" during our daily air shows. But you'll see something truly spectacular at night! His night show features LED lights and 200 pounds of pyro that fills the air with tons of sparks, fireworks and more, all while performing graceful aerobatic maneuvers. Seriously, this is basically an entire fireworks display…except it is launched from an aircraft in the sky instead of from the ground!

And that's not all...you'll see some skywriting in the sky above Battle Creek courtesy of Nathan and GhostWriter. You'll be able to see words, shapes, maybe even a smiley face!

to include on your this year…June 29th through July 4th at Battle Creek Executive Airport (Battle Creek, Michigan) www.fieldofflight.com

But actually, most people have never heard of the Lord Mayor's Hot Air Balloon Regatta. And that's because balloons are finicky sorts of things. The Regatta had to be cancelled in 2020 because of Covid. Then, bad weather put paid to Londoners' balloon-gazing dreams in 2021 and 2022.

The last time the event actually happened was in 2019, when 46 balloons were launched from Battersea Park, many of them sponsored by different corporations: the beady-eyed owl and the green floating boot were particular highlights.

This year's event has three possible dates, to maximise the chances of a balloon bonanza. Look to the skies on Sunday May 14, Sunday May 21, or failing that, Sunday July 2, and you might just glimpse the big display. Check the balloon regatta website for updates, nearer the time. Let's hope that stormy weather doesn't burst our collective bubble.

Working with town staff, Tourism and Business Development Director Tom Perlozzo said his team had developed criteria that was used in recruiting both events to the area.

“As a group, we’ve identified some criteria as we are out recruiting for events,” he town the council this week. “Is it unique? Is it ownable? Does it advance our mission? So before these guys go out, myself included, we have a clear understanding of what we’re looking for in the attractions and events coming through Ocean City.”

Last month, the Ocean City Tourism Commission forwarded a favorable recommendation to approve a $20,000 title sponsorship for the Ocean City Balloon Festival. Developed by Triple Creek, the promoter of the Professional Bull Riding event, Perlozzo said the festival was seeking a move to the Ocean City area.

The pilot of the hot-air balloon whose landing last weekend at Carter G. Woodson Middle School caused a bit of a community stir said Thursday that the stop was not an emergency, adding that as the calendar turns to warmer weather, folks can expect to see more of him flying about. 😀

Ross Bauschatz attributed the excitement on the ground to the rarity of seeing hot-air balloons over the area, but he plans to change that very soon

Despite the hundreds of hot air balloon flights above Temecula Valley each year, it's always a sight when one touches down in a residential community.

That was the case Wednesday morning in Temecula.

Around 8 a.m., a hot air balloon with a Vindemia Vineyard & Winery logo touched down on Brixton Cove, a neighborhood cul-de-sac just west of Butterfield Stage Road.

Five onboard the craft were safe as two crew members maneuvered the balloon from the ground, according to photos and a local resident.
