Great Basin Fire

Great Basin Fire Great Basin Fire is a wildland firefighting company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. We are starting our 12th season and our company is continually growing.

Vaughn Robbins created this company in 2009 after having fought wildfires for 10 years. Great Basin Fire has six engines; Two Type 4 Engines, Two Type 6 Engines, One Type 5 Engine and One Tactical Tender and One Water Tender. We travel all over the country, to various states to assist in the containment of wildland fires. In the 11 years Great Basin Fire has been in business, we have built a stron

g reputation for our professionalism and our ability to form relationships with fellow firefighters. Every year we hold training classes and welcome new wildland firefighters into our company.

: As of today, July 18, the national has increased to PL5.

Significant wildland fire activity is now occurring in most geographic areas with a high potential for additional large wildland fires to emerge. National resources like hotshot crews, airtankers, smokejumpers and communications equipment, are heavily committed and the National Interagency Coordination Center is coordinating requests for these resources with geographic area coordination centers. Active geographic areas are intensively engaged in prioritization of incidents and reallocation of resources as needed to ensure effective incident operations.

The National Multi-Agency Coordination Group establishes the level throughout the year. Their decision is dictated by fuel and weather conditions, fire activity, and fire suppression resource availability throughout the country. The five preparedness levels range from the lowest (1) to the highest (5). For more information on preparedness levels visit our website here ➡ https://www.nifc.gov/fire-information

: As of today, July 10, the National has increased to PL4.

Significant wildland fire activity continues to increase in several Geographic Areas. The potential for additional large wildland fires to emerge based upon the forecast from Predictive Services over the next several days is high.

The National Interagency Coordination Center has had to increasingly engage with Geographic Area Coordination Centers to coordinate and fill orders for all National Resource types daily. Drawdown of multiple resource types on less active Geographic Areas is occurring and will pose a challenge if existing fuel and fire weather conditions change.

: Due to significant wildland fire activity occurring in several Geographic Areas with the potential for additional large wildland fires emerging, the has increased to 3 (also known as PL3) as of today, June 28.

Over the last several days, the National Interagency Coordination Center has had to increasingly engage with Geographic Area Coordination Centers to coordinate and fill orders for most national resource types. Further, a drawdown of resources on non-active Geographic Areas may pose a challenge if existing fuel and fire weather conditions change in those areas.

Sorry, I haven’t posted any updates lately. It’s been a pretty slow start to the fire season. We have had four trucks in California the past month and are home safe now. The type 6s are up on the Racetrack RX and might be there for a bit, quite a bit of burning going on and hundreds of slash piles to burn.
