In 1989, the Klondyke Garden Club commissioned artist Larry “Rodeo” Hinson to paint this still beautiful mural at the corner of First Avenue and Brown Street as a part of its downtown Chadbourn beautification project. The mural depicts a turn-of-the-century strawberry barn with farmers in antique cars and mule-drawn wagons lining up to sell their products. The steam train engineer is leaning out of its window, waiting for the load to be completed so he can haul the product to distant markets. Plan your fall visit to Columbus County and include the NC Yam Festival at Tabor City! The Pink Slips Band will perform on Saturday!

Save the Date of Saturday, October 26th for the NC Yam Festival! On Yam Fest Saturday, Tabor City will be painted PINK by the PINK SLIPS BAND!! You will need to make your way to United Bank on Hickman Road where the Pink Slips Band stage will be set up. Not too long after the parade is over, they will perform for a few hours! Bleachers will be limited so feel free to bring a lawn chair and be prepared to hear some of the best Beach Music around!! There will be food, crafts, and all sorts of other vendor types around you, so be sure to grab a bite to eat, enjoy a dessert, and do a little shopping before, during, and after the Pink Slips Band performs.
