Well its been some time since I have posted. Been chasing the summer gold!! Its about that time of year again and what a way to start it off!!!!
This is what went down.....
10am they're calling for rain but like the last few days it doesn't look like its going to come my way so I loaded the boat up and head to the ramp. I get the boat in the water and turn on the radio, all I hear is guys saying it's been a slow day. No good maybe I should stick in close and see how it plays out. I head over to 55fow start looking for fish. No marks at all so I say f-this I'm headed out to 74fow I know a peace of structure that always holds fish. I find my way the peace of structure I've been hitting hard the last few days. Sure enough I started to pull some fish. Get to the end of the structure pull my lines and make the 180 to head back over it. At this point I'm headed into the waves and my small boat is having one hell of a time, I fight with her to get her headed west. Finally get her on point and bam!! First rod goes off it's a steelhead!! I think man that's cool I haven't caught one in some time now. Got me thinking about guiding season!!!! (Can't wait to be on the water with all my old friends and new ones)
I end up pulling a few more when the last pole goes off. It doesn't feel like a steelhead but it's fighting to hard to be a walleye.... I get it up to the boat and net it. First thing I think is man I got a pink salmon WOW!!! So cool....take some pics throw him in the box and keep at it. We pull our limit and head in. Now it's a 45min ride back in and I start thinking I wonder what the state record pink salmon is if we even have one i know they don't get that big.... So I look it up and it's 20" 3.5lbs (I believe) I stop the boat dead in the water pull the fish out of the cooler and throw him on the measuring board...... 22"...... I start to freak out now and put him in the box. I hammered down and got in as fast as I could. Drop the boat off and head to the Fairport fish research station.
At this point I'm kinda freaking out because I don't even know if it's really a pink.. 5 biologists come take a look at it, we measure it and weigh it on two separate scales. Make some phone calls..... take some pics...... (man am I freaking out) finally he looks at me and said "congratulations on the new ohio state pink salmon record"!!!!!!
That's right I Anthony Cpin now hold the ohio state record for pink salmon. 30 years of fishing and now I hold a record!!
Now for the trout record or maybe the walleye record?? Lol
