Today I am headed to a hearing at the State House to support state licensure for IBCLC lactation consultants to increase access to clinical lactation care families are entitled to but too often find insurance and Mass Health don't cover. It only happens once a year and today is the day! International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) all around the globe work tirelessly day in and day out to help families meet their breastfeeding & chestfeeding goals.

If you've got an IBCLC in your life that helped you- to breastfeed, or to exclusively pump, or to wean, or WHATEVER- today would be a great day to thank them!

Imagine lactation consults were covered by insurance the way prenatal visits are. That was the intent of the ACA. Read my colleague, Rachel O'Brien's article below and then email [email protected] and [email protected] the chairs of the Joint Comm on Public Health and tell them you support licensure for IBCLCs (House Bill 1151)

The reason most private practice IBCLCs don't take health insurance- and tips for getting your insurance company to reimburse you for the home visit.
