✨🥳 This weekend the festa Major takes place in our village La Torre de Claramunt. Every village and town has its own festa major, linked to their own patron saint. For La Torre de Claramunt this is Sant Joan (Saint John), who is also the patron saint of all of Catalonia. That is why June 23 is a national holiday that is celebrated exuberantly in all Catalonia with all kinds of traditions. Such as the arrival of the ´Flama de Canigó´🔥. This fire is lit on June 22 on the mountain Canigó (just above the Spanish border in the French Pyrenees) and brought to all Catalan towns and villages via marathons by many runners 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️and there festively welcomed with Cava 🍾🥂and ´coca´ 🥧 (a kind of cake). Of course, lots of eating🍖🍷🎼 🎊, drinking, music and dancing. Furthermore, it is customary in Spain to set off fireworks on Sant Joan - Midsummer's Eve - especially bangers.. 💥🎉

✨🥳 Dit weekend vindt het festa major plaats in ons dorp La Torre de Claramunt. Elk dorp en elke stad heeft zijn eigen festa major, gekoppeld aan de eigen beschermheilige. Voor La Torre de Claramunt is dat Sant Joan (Sint-Jan), ook de beschermheilige van heel Catalonië. 23 juni is dan ook een nationale feestdag die in heel Catalonië uitbundig wordt gevierd met allerlei tradities. Zoals de intocht van de 'Flama de Canigó'🔥. Dit vuur wordt op 22 juni aangestoken op de berg Canigó (net boven de Spaanse grens in de Franse Pyreneeën) en via marathons door vele hardlopers 🏃🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ naar alle Catalaanse steden en dorpen gebracht en daar feestelijk onthaald met veel cava 🍾🥂en 'coca' 🥧 (een soort cake). Verder natuurlijk veel eten🍖 drinken 🍷 muziek maken 🎼 en Sardana dansen 🎊. Tot slot is het in Spanje gebruikelijk om vuurwerk af te steken op Sant Joan - Midzomeravond - vooral knallers.. 💥🎉

✨🤩 The Barcelona Panot - from paving stone to style icon. Barcelona is one big open-air museum where even a paving stone made it to perhaps it's most merchandised icon. At the end of the 19th century, Barcelona was one big construction site. There was no policy for sidewalks, and on rainy days they turned into huge mud pools. In 1906, the Barcelona city council issued a public tender for the design of paving stones, 'panot' in Catalan, which was won by the 'Panot de flor'. The iconic flower tiles of Barcelona are so characteristic that they are known far beyond the city limits. And who can say that they have a tattoo of them that was done by their very daughter? 😎👩

Aan het einde van de 19e eeuw was Barcelona één grote bouwput. Beleid voor trottoirs was er niet, en op regenachtige dagen veranderden ze in grote modderpoelen. In 1906 schreef de gemeente Barcelona een openbare aanbesteding uit voor het ontwerp van stoeptegels, ´panot´ in het Catalaans, die gewonnen werd door de ´Panot de flor´. ✨🥳 Every year on the last Sunday of January, the Gran Festa de Calçots takes place in the town of Valls. Calçots (spring onions) are a typical Catalan dish. On all the squares of the town, they are completely blackened over large fires until they are done. 🔥Then the 'calçotada' begins and they are eaten, by the crowd that has gathered, after the outer skin has been removed, with a delicious romesco sauce. This is of course accompanied by lots of cava, happiness and local folklore! It is the start of the Calçot season, which lasts until Easter. 🤩✨

✨🥳Op de laatste zondag van januari vindt jaarlijks in het stadje Valls het Gran Festa de Calçots plaats. Calçots (lente-uien) zijn een typisch Catalaans gerecht. Op alle pleinen van het stadje worden ze boven boven grote vuren helemaal zwartgeblakerd tot ze gaar zijn. 🔥 Daarna begint de ´calçotada´ en worden ze door het toegestroomde publiek, nadat de de buitenkant erafgehaald is met een heerlijke romesco saus als een haring opgegeten. Dit gaat natuurlijk gepaard met veel cava, gezelligheid en lokale folklore! Het is de start van het calçot-seizoen, dat duurt tot Pasen. In veel restaurans worden dan calçots geserveerd, dus mis het niet als in je in het voorjaar in Catalonië bent! 🤩✨

🎉✨ Cabalgata de Reyes: Eastern magic and gifts on Epiphany! ✨🎉 Tonight is the night! All of Spain attends the Cabalgata de Reyes, the night when the Three Kings arrive in the villages and towns. With beautiful floats, colorful costumes, music and thousands of sweets flying through the air, the arrival of Melchior, Gaspar and Baltasar is celebrated. 👑👑👑 For children, this is perhaps the most exciting night of the year! 🎁 After the parade, they put their shoes in front of the fireplace, often with a bowl of water or some hay for the camels. And when everyone is asleep, the Kings bring gifts for the little ones who have been good all year (and maybe some coal for those who have been a little naughty... 😜). 👶🎠 Feliz Noche de Reyes! 🌟

Vanavond is het zover! Heel Spanje gaat naar de Cabalgata de Reyes, dé avond waarop de Drie Koningen aankomen in de dorpen en steden. Met prachtige praalwagens, kleurrijke kostuums, muziek en duizenden snoepjes die door de lucht vliegen, wordt de komst van Melchior, Gaspar en Baltasar gevierd. 👑👑👑
Voor kinderen is dit misschien wel de spannendste avond van het jaar! 🎁 Na de optocht zetten ze hun schoen klaar, vaak met een bakje water of wat hooi voor de kamelen. En als iedereen slaapt, brengen de Koningen cadeautjes voor de kleintjes die het hele jaar lief zijn geweest (en misschien wat steenkool voor wie een beetje ondeugend was... 😜). 👶🎠 Feliz Noche de Reyes! 🌟
