Did you know?
The Northern Waterthrush (Parkesia noveboracensis) is almost ending its 9-month stay in our subcontinent. Many individuals are finishing accumulating fat to start their return to North America.

Those individuals that make it will mate and reproduce and hopefully, both they and their offspring will return to South America during their next migratory season!

NEW EXPEDITION IS OUT 🙌

One of Venezuela's most prominent endemism regions is the Turimiquire Massif, or the Caripe region. Here we find the largest number of threatened species in the country, many of them Critically Endangered.

The Venezuelan Sylph (Aglaiocercus berlepschi) is one of these endemic species and possibly the Sylph with the most restricted distribution in the world.

The Northeastern region of Venezuela is an area of magnificent scenic beauty and interesting endemic birds.
The Venezuelan Sylph (Aglaiocercus berlepschi) is one of the regions most sought-after sightings. Although we found it in rainy conditions and it doesn't show all its splendor, it is still wonderful creature 🤩

If it weren't for it's eye, you'd might think you're seeing a leaf.
This is a female Crimson-hooded Manakin (Pipra aureola) in her nest. Unlike the female, the male is deep red, very showy, and doesn't help the female in the nest (a very common case of "machismo" in nature 😂😂).

Urichi's Tyrannulet (Phyllomyias urichi) success! 🙌

The most rewarding feeling is to sight an endangered species that has eluded most humans. Unlike the photos that were known of the species, where the bird was depicted almost as uniformly yellowish (see in ), Phyllomyias urichi is actually a Flycatcher very similar to others of "its genus", it has a gray head with greenish hues that are accentuated towards the nape, yellow ventral parts, whitish throat. It differs from the sympatric Phyllomyias griseiceps in that the latter does not have very marked wing bars and its beak is totally black. There are other differences, but these are the most useful in the field.

The White-Fronted Tyrannulet isn't called that on a whim, it's actually one of the few species of Tyranullets whose tarsi and legs are rough, with small circular bumps that can only be seen with a zoom.

Some authors have suggested that this species, along with burmeisteri, should be within its own genus, Acrocordopus, which means something like warty legs.

The harpy eagle (Harpia harpyja) is one of Venezuela's legendary species, alhough few people have seen them in the wild.

These great birds that can measure 35 to 41 inches (89 to 105 centimeters), are named after harpies, the predatory “frightful, flying creatures with hooked beak and claws” of Greek mythology.
