The ‘Pointe Suite’ to the south opens up to unimaginable views of the pool and the ocean each day. VILLA ALMONDEEN is located in the quiet Village of Ballast Bay on the north side of Tortola, British Virgin Islands. It is nestled beside the ruins of a 300-year old sugar mill. Remnants of this Colonial Era Sugar Mill can be seen between the lush green tropical setting of local fruit trees. Strategi
cally, Almondeen faces the waters of a shoreline laden with large to medium size blue-bit stones, but in local parlance termed "blue bitch." From this Bay, stones were used as a balance (ballast) for ships returning to Europe with sugar, rum and molasses in the 17th to 19th Centuries. Villa Almondeen sits about 100 feet from the water's edge in a private and secured area. It is five minutes away from the popular Cane Garden Bay Beach and 15 minutes from other close-by beaches. You can enjoy views of Jost Van D**e and the boating activities around the "Bay." To the left is an area called "The Pointe," a line-fishing and snorkeling area, and to the right is the famous "Smith's Toe (pronounced “Smittoe”), another fishing area, and home to the blue parrot fish. At nights, the villa takes on a truly romantic feeling, as the grounds and gardens seem to bow in admiration of the lighted surroundings inviting one to dine on the outdoor deck, or be mesmerized by the lights at Cane Garden, or just gaze at the stars and moon competing for your attention each night. Truly, as one local Poet wrote, “there is no place like "The Great Ballast." From the Living area, one will be blown away by the unobstructed breathtaking water views to a never-ending horizon beyond. There is a modern seating area with solid Asian wood furniture, smothered with plush comfort seating and cushions to soothe a tired body. The dining room seats six and compliments the well decorated living room with shades of blue and grey, a tribute to the blue ocean welcoming one at the break of day, the crystal clear blue water of the pool and its seat with a 180 degree view of Jost Van D**e and Sandy Cays, as well as the magical night lights at Cane Garden Bay. The Villa houses two bedrooms and two baths with posh linen on King and Queen sized beds. Imagine witnessing gentle to moderate waves on waking? No, it’s not a dream; you are at the unique Villa Almondeen!! The Ole Wall Suite embraces a view of the lush green hillside with sprawling modern homes as well as tropical fruit trees nearby. If you listen carefully and peer on the lawn on a day after the lawn is cut, you will witness the “Turtle Dove,” after which the island of Tortola is named, softly whispering in thanksgiving, “Father, do send the rain; Father, do send the rain to cool my skin … cool my skin.” Only at Almondeen!! Bathrooms have rain-water showers, and bedrooms are air-conditioned, decorated with wall art and mirrors, and have ample closet space. Housekeeping is provided every three days and includes bed linen and towel changes. Because rain water is precious commodity, which cannot be wasted from the two cisterns, the Housekeeper undertakes the laundry duties. The Courtyard presents a warm welcome to all guests. As soon as you exit your vehicle, you will quickly notice that the Villa is enclosed with an artful rock wall, a replica of the stone-work on the 300-year ruins on the sugar mill. Let our team tell the story of the artifacts on the surface of the stone wall, a story you will never forget. You cannot ignore the artful carved courtyard with a circular bricked area which would quickly remind you if you follow the circular pattern, you will end at one destination – Villa Almondeen. We can’t wait to welcome you, your friends and family to the most unique, quiet and memorable Villa on the Northside of Tortola.
