For fans looking to track the fleet and stay updated during the Chicago Yacht Club Race To Mackinac presented by Wintrust, here are some tips:

1. You can track both the Cruising and Racing Divisions via YB Tracker. The tracker refreshes every 15 minutes and displays each team's location and track on the race course.

We planned to take this trip in October but Hurricane Ian made us rethink passing through Ft. Myers.

4 months later the devastation was still evident. Along the coast the mangroves were denuded. Inland buildings showed damage and many boats still had not been removed. 30 miles up the Caloosahatchee River flood waters moved docks and fuel tanks from their footings. Where we tied up at C Ten Caloosa Marina there were 2 boats and a car sunk in 30 feet of water.

It is time to continue “America’s Great Loop”. We started north of the Statue of Liberty on the M/V God Speed Mary (red pointers). After arriving at Holland, MI we realized that a trawler would be a better choice to continue the ”Loop”. We then purchased M/V Mitzvah in Bayfield, Wi (green pointers). We are now in Gulf Shores, AL. To complete the “Loop” we must go around Florida and up the Atlantic coast to our starting point.

I have enjoyed many of the Great Lakes wrecks including this one.

The Cedarville sits on the bottom of the Straits of Mackinac. She is upside down and 601’ long, 100 feet deep. She was in a collision in 1965 and was almost torn in half twisted on the way down. Many divers have went inside never to return alive. If there was a haunted ghost ship this one would be it 👻

We will be racing again this year after the Chicago to Mackinaw race was cancelled last year.
We will be on Scherezade in the Beneteau 36.7 class.

Time for the oldest annual freshwater race in the world, starting this Friday and Saturday (cruising and racing divisions, respectively) at the Chicago Lighthouse, just off Navy Pier.
