"Love City" doesn't make much sense as a nickname for St. John, only because it's the opposite of a city in every way.

Today we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming aboard a multi-generational family and their friends, ten in all, visiting from the northeast.

We made our first stop for fantastic snorkeling at Lovango Cay, and the plan was to get to the world-famous Limeout floating gourmet taco bar, all the way in Coral Bay, on the far southeast corner of St. John.

It's a long trip and some days, the wind and seas don't make this a viable part of the itinerary. But as luck would have it, the conditions were perfectly mild and conducive for this long of a trek for the best tacos anywhere!

We all enjoyed the sightseeing along the way as we circumnavigated the island known as Love City, passing some of the most remote and scenic parts of the island. As we all got to know one another along the way, it became clear why these folks were so happy to be vacationing together.

We picked up the mooring closest to the floating "lillypads" at Limeout, and everyone made the stone's throw voyage either swimming or paddleboarding. Even Lydia joined them, and she literally gave the "Beach Charters VI" crew "shirt off her back" to one of our new friends, who was starting to burn despite all of the sunblock.

The rest of the trip was downwind, under sail, under the loveliest of conditions, and we made one more beautiful snorkel stop at Little Lamshure Bay, along the way.

I felt like I was part of this amazingly fun family by the end of the day, and I know we will see at least some of them again. This is what puts the love in "Love City!"

One of the best things about my job is that no two trips are ever the same, even if they seem similar.

Our two guests on Baby Blue today had never been to the Virgin Islands before, and were celebrating the gentleman's 40th birthday with a voyage to the world-famous "Baths", way out on Virgin Gorda, BVI.

The middle of the week often floods our most popular destinations with throngs of cruise ship visitors, especially this time of year, but my new friends were able to get off of the beaten path in the geological wonder called the Baths, and reported having an amazing time, evidenced by some photos.

We had time to stop at Willie T's floating bar and restaurant on Norman Island, where they had lunch and were entertained, to say the least, by all of the completely wild behavior of some of the other guests, doing all that Willie T's is so famous for...

We had just enough time for a quick snorkel stop at Lovango Cay before heading back to St. Thomas. Most of the other boats were gone by that late in the day, so the popular stop was like a private aquarium for my enthusiastic guests.

Nothing makes me happier than to see guests leave the boat at the end of the day looking that happy! As always, I sincerely hope to see these folks again.

A jumping good sunset

We decide that the girls wanted to play in the water a bit so we left out of st Thomas and hustled over to Christmas cove. Everyone seemed to have a fantastic time and then the sun began to show off as it faded away. It was a beautiful sunset and before the colors stopped, we took off and captured Michelle rolled out the sail and shut down the engines for a bit. It was a wonderful sail back to .

Quote of the night……. As the girls sat up on the trampolines singing along to Taylor swift and having a blast, one of the moms said……..”I had a great time but I think the girls had the best time!” It certainly seemed that way! :~)

Nothing makes me happier than hosting return guests, and we are seeing them more often lately!

Our two couples came back today on a mission to explore the world-famous "Baths" of Virgin Gorda, BVI, and they couldn't have picked a more beautiful weather day for it.

Just over an hour ride into the wind, we arrived in Spanishtown without so much as a spray of sea water on any of us, it was so calm.

Some folks prefer to swim in to the Baths, and others prefer to take the short taxi ride from Spanishtown. Today's guests chose the taxi option, and they enjoyed the geological wonder of the world for a few hours.

Once back on the boat, we calculated we would have just enough time for a stop at the also world-famous "W***y T's" floating bar and restaurant, at Norman Island, on the way back to St. John.

They say you're "not supposed" to jump off the restaurant and into the surrounding turquoise waters, but it's what everyone does all day every day, and our guests had a blast joining the fun.

Leaving Norman Island to clear US Customs back on St. John gave us the perfect opportunity to do some sightseeing on the less-often visited south coast of St. John. Willie Nelson provided the requested playlist.

This being their second trip with us in a week, I feel like we are old friends already. Another perfect day on the water, and missions accomplished, we look forward to meeting again!

Once in a while, when our guests step aboard the big cat in the morning, I think to myself, oh boy, these people are NOT going to want to get off the boat at the end of the day.

Four couples, on vacation together and celebrating a 40th birthday, they came quite prepared to celebrate! And wanted to start the day with some great snorkeling.

As luck would have it, the rain and strong winds of previous days had all subsided, and the snorkeling at Lovango Cay could not have been more perfect. Because we got there early, we had all of the tropical fish to ourselves, and everyone spent an extra long time swimming with them.

Next stop was Maho Bay on St. John, a first for all of the guests. We picked up a mooring close to the beach, and I had barely finished my description of the offerings at Maho Crossroads before everyone was either piled onto paddleboards or swimming like Olympians to the shore.

They were gone quite a while, and on the way back out found photo opps with some of the famous local sea turtles, without even really looking for them! It was just that kind of day.

We enjoyed a nice long scenic sail downwind along the St. John coastline, with lunch served, and a lot of sunbathing and singing on the netting up front.

We anchored close to the floating Pizza Pi restaurant behind Great St. James Island, and again the paddleboarders and swimmers hit the water the second the "pool" was open. They apparently "bought the house a round" while over there.

This fun-loving group made so many new friends on the floats there, they hitched a ride back to Charcot on their new friends' boat, and suddenly the birthday party was in full swing. Someone figured out that someone had a guitar, and the birthday boy REALLY wanted to hear some Garth Brooks and Jimmy Buffett, so a brief impromptu concert ensued.

And as predicted, they did NOT want to get off the boat at the end of the day, but they eventually agreed, but only if they could book again with us as soon as possible. As in this week.

Some levels of enthusiasm are just hopelessly contagious!

On the beautiful sailing catamaran
Second Chance

Today's guests were three couples, from three different chilly states, who showed up to the dock early and eager to spend the day on Jost Van D**e, BVI.

We set out for Great Bay into what the old sailors would have called "spirited" seas and wind, so part of the ride over was wet and wild for those sitting up front on the netting.

But as we approached the waters more protected by the island of Jost, conditions settled down and soon enough we were in the clear and calm waters of the bay.

The customs formalities didn't take long today, and soon we were anchored just a boat-length or two in front of the world-famous Soggy Dollar bar and restaurant, and the gorgeous white sand beach at White Bay, which they all enjoyed for a few hours.

We had an exhilarating downwind sail back towards St. John, surfing down the same waves that had been soaking some of our faces in the morning.

Taking the close-in scenic route along the stunningly beautiful Caneel and Honeymoon beaches, we all enjoyed some sightseeing and photo opps before clearing customs in Cruz Bay.

Great times and great music, as we switched between Jimmy Buffet and Bruce Springsteen to sing along with all the way back. We bid farewell with salty smiles, hoping to see our new friends again for the next adventure on the sea!

Second Chance

We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day to take our four guests over for a visit to Jost Van D**e, BVI.

With sunny and breezy weather, we made our way into the wind with everyone enjoying the view from up front on the netting.

At Great Bay, the gentlemen asked to be driven by dinghy to the beach, while the ladies chose to paddleboard in. They managed to get a little lost on the way, but had fun doing so and made their way to the beach and met up with the guys at Foxy's.

Around the corner at White Bay, we discovered that there was a boat show making the popular anchorage a bit more lively and crowded than usual, but we found a spot to anchor amidst all of the other boats, in the lively party atmosphere. Our guests enjoyed the rest of the afternoon on the beautiful beach, of course with fantastic food and drinks.

They had obviously made some new friends because as we were sailing downwind back towards the USVI, another boat approached us with their guests yelling "New Hampshire!!!", where our guests were visiting from.

This is the first of two BVI trips we have booked with these fun-loving folks in the coming week, and we look forward to taking them on the next adventure to a different British Virgin Island very soon!

"I've got a Caribbean soul I can barely control..."

We had a true parrot-head on board today, so the late Jimmy Buffet is going to get quoted, as his music was the soundtrack for a perfect day on the water.

Though all well-traveled, none of our guests today had visited the Virgin Islands National Park from the sea before. With the wet weather clearly behind us, the only stated concern was possible facial strain from "too much grinning."

We took the scenic route close to the National Park beaches, all the way out to Maho Bay, where they were able to get close and extended looks at the local green sea turtles.

Then we raised a sail and enjoyed a smooth cruise over to Lovango Cay, where the water was as clear as a swimming pool despite the recent rains, offering a terrific snorkeling experience, among the vibrant corals and plentiful fish.

Lunch was served on the next easygoing downwind run over to the St. James Islands, where we tucked into the protection of Christmas Cove.

After some beautiful and easy snorkeling there, the focus shifted towards more sight-seeing, as well as singing-along and story-telling. So we finished out the day cruising the east coast of St. Thomas, passing close-by each beach and resort along the way, as our guests were reminded of the places they'd been.

"Wrinkles will only go where the smiles have been," sang Jimmy Buffet, and today there have been a lot of smiles!

Spring Break 2024!!!

Our four young ladies came to us from the upper mid-west, by way of St. John, and they had a great sense of humor about stepping aboard the big cat in a torrential downpour.

We knew it wouldn't last long though, and the goal for today was clearly clear-skies if we could find them, and seeing things you can only "see by boat".

The rain let up for a while as everyone got in the water at Lovango Cay to enjoy the clear, calm waters and all of the colorful sea life just beneath the boat and nearby.

Seeing sea turtles was also high on the list of goals, and Maho Bay on St. John did not disappoint, with several turtles showing up for work.

With the sun drying us out for most of the downwind cruise to the St. James Islands, naps were taken on the cozy netting up front. At Christmas Cove, we launched a party of snorkelers and a party of paddleboarders, all having a blast between the unseasonably regular rain showers.

The plan was to snorkel beautiful Henley Cay just before returning our guests to Cruz Bay, St. John at the end if the day, but when we got there, everyone was "snorkeled-out" and wanted to spend more time showing off their paddleboarding skills.

So we grabbed a mooring just off of nearby Honeymoon Beach, where the paddleboards were launched and quite a bit of hilarity ensued, as the hot sun once again yielded to one last downpour of the day.

To quote Taylor Swift: "Life isn't how to survive the storm, it's about how to dance in the rain.”

Well said, young lady!
