Capt Justin and Maddo’s
Notes on board the big beautiful sailing catamaran
Charcott

Our family of five today were on a mission. At least Mom and Dad were.

Mom and Dad had done an extended charter here with some friends before, and now were hoping their 10, 14 and 16 year-olds would love the experience as much as they had.

Our first stop was Lovango Cay for snorkeling some gorgeous coral heads right beneath the boat.

Then we opened up a sail in unusually calm wind and sea condtions, and eased our way into Christmas Cove. Anchoring directly behind the world-famous Pizza Pi VI restaurant boat, we could strongly smell our lunch that was likely just coming out of the oven.

While Dad had taken off on one of the paddleboards to get the pizza, two large spotted eagle rays were spotted lingering very close by, and one of our younger guests was able to jump in with snorkel gear and get a close look.

After pizza, they snorkeled all around the Fish Cay rocks in calm clear water, where Mom and Dad spotted an eel hiding in vertical wall of sea life. The kids didn't seem to believe them!

But later the kids and the captain were sitting on the back of the catamaran when one of those spotted eagle rays suddenly jumped about four feet out of the water, almost close enough to splash us!

Mom and Dad never saw it.

But the kids and I high-fived each other.

Mission accomplished!

Strings, Sails and Sunsets

What an incredible sunset for our first concert of this season. As we sailed out from St John, the sunset just kept getting better and better.
We had special guests on board…..all guests are special…… but tonight we had the famous Teddy and his family onboard.
It was pretty awesome watching teddy and his little sister sing along to almost every song :~).
It seems like we always use this word to describe these nights but… they really are magical!

Quote of the night….. at the end of the night, Erin said…..”hearing the little ones sing, made my whole heart happy!” Awesome kids can definitely have that effect on you :~).

Rain, dolphins and octopi .

It rained a lot today. On the way to St John everyone tucked away to stay dry. The rain let up and the sun poked through as these guys swam with turtles at Maho. Onward their way back to the boat, DOLPHINS showed up for some fun time. They swam around and hung out for a bit. It was super cool.
We had more rain as we made our way to Lovango Cay. The rain didn’t stop these guys from seeing all the coral and fish that hang out there.
It didn’t rain hard but, On the way to Christmas cove it was difficult to see any land. It was so crazy looking.
We had enough of a break in the rain that they snorkeled all over the ledge. They saw sting rays and even got to see an octopus!
They absolutely loved all of the spots but the dolphins and the octopus stole the show today.
The rain stopped long enough for a couple of them to get a good nap up on the front on the way back to St Thomas :~).

Quote of the day…….. after the dolphins swam away she looked up and super loud and dripping with excitement, said……”that’s a bucket list item for sure!!!” We always love sending people home with a lighter bucket :~).

Surfing the waves

We love when friends have friends visiting :~). We grabbed all of these guys from St. John this morning and had a bumpy sail over to Jost. The Christmas winds are definitely kicking :~).
Everyone enjoyed Great Harbor before we went around over to White Bay. After a short swim in they had a blast! They got back to the boat just in time to head back. We surfed down lots of big rollers all the way back to .

Quote of the day……one of the ladies asked if she could see what I got. As I reached to pull up my shirt she said…….”noooo, your camera!” :~). Turns out she is a professional photographer and just wanted to she what camera I used :~). Clear communication is always good :~).

The most of Jost

These guys had never been but had heard about all of the fun.
We picked them up from St John and had a really good sail over. Lots of wind and it wasn’t as bumpy as we thought it might be :~).
These guys walked the sandy roads of Great Harbor and had some treats at Corsairs Beach Bar & Restaurant Then a stop off at Foxy's before heading over to White Bay. We got a nice close spot and they all headed in for some more excitement.
After lots of pain killers at Soggy Dollar Bar, they managed to make it back to the boat :~).
It was another great sail back to .

Quote of the day…… as we came into the channel at the end of the day, capt Michelle gave them all the run down and the warnings about customs. After Capts warnings we still heard, several times, from the ladies …….remember, ….”they don’t like jokes”.
They all did well and no one got the rubber glove treatment :~).

Capt Justin and Vanessa’s notes
On board the big sailing catamaran
Charcott :~).

We picked up this extended family of six on St. John and headed straight over to Lovango to start the day with some snorkeling. Our youngest guest was three, and while most of the others were enjoying the healthy corals and colorful fish in the clear water, she was content to sit on the edge with her mom and share some of her corn chips with the fish.

There was much talk and excitement about the newly re-opened Pizza Pi floating restaurant, so after snorkeling we put up some sail for a run downwind to Christmas Cove. With orders for lunch placed, the captain jumped in first to check the anchor and was able to bring to the surface an enormous hemit crab, living in a conch shell, much to the delight of our youngest guest.

Instead of having the pizza delivered, one guest and one crew volunteered for a mini-adventure to paddleboard the short distance to pick up the food and drinks.

After lunch and more underwater critters to see in the calm of Christmas Cove, we all decided to head back over to St. John to enjoy Honeymoon Beach, one of the only National Park beaches the family had not already spent time this trip.

By mid-afternoon, everyone had had their fill of snorkeling, gourmet pizza, and the rum punch some of the elders had brought. Everyone had settled in to the beanbag chairs on the trampoline, and it was decided we would finish the day with some sightseeing of areas this family had not had a chance to see yet.

So we set out for the scenic north side of Lovango Cay, slowly passing close to Congo Cay, where the avid birdwatchers with us were able to get a good look at some nesting white and brown pelicans, brown-footed bo***es, and even a species of white tern none of us had seen before.

Another great day on the water, making memories for the young and the young at heart!

Jost with a snorkel stop.

We grabbed these guys from St John and headed straight for Jost in the BVI. The winds were soft and the seas calm so it was a smooth ride over.
We rode the dinghy into great Harbor so they could have some drinks atFoxy's While they were there they grabbed a little food and we got to hear all about their pet hermit crabs. Apparently it’s a thing. :~). They were very cute crabs….yes, we got to see pictures :~). The hermit crab mom has been loving it on with all of the crabs running around :~).
Soon we were off and Capt Michelle found us the perfect spot in front of white bay. These guys had a very short swim in and loved the atmosphere at Soggy Dollar Bar
On the way back we stopped off so they could enjoy a little snorkeling at Lovango.

Quote of the day……. While snorkeling one of them stayed on the boat. But her wife called up to her and asked…..”you sure you don’t want to come, there’s sooooo many fish in here!” Lovango never disappoints.

Capt Justin and Vanessa’s
Notes on board the beautiful sailing catamaran
Charcott!

We began with picking up our four guests on St. Thomas. Everyone was from the DC area, which is more or less my old stomping grounds, so as we got underway it was fun talking about all of the places we have all been, and all of the fun adventures we had all had in the Maryland and Virgina rivers and beaches. In summertime only of course!

We set out across Pillsbury Sound with the lush green colors of St. John intensifying before our eyes by the minute as we approached Honeymoon Beach, our first stop. Everyone including the captain was eager to jump in that inviting turquoise water just as soon as possible, so we picked up a mooring close to the beach and all enjoyed a swim, as we talked about the historic significance of the National Park and that beach in particular.

We decided to save our snorkel gear for the next stop, nearby Lovango, which I always say never disappoints a snorkeler.

There our guests spent over an hour exploring all of the healthy and well-populated coral heads. There was much excited discussion about the various species, and some fun debate about which fish is which.

This charter was a bit longer, and our folks expressed a desire to go to a beach where they could not only go ashore for a big lunch, but wade and splash in some shallow and calm water, as one of the ladies was a self-described "non-swimmer".

So I suggested we head to one of my favorite hidden gems, Secret Harbor. We put the head sail out for a lively run downwind back across the Sound, through Current Cut where we were able to point out to them where their condo was at Cowpet Bay, before we rounded the corner into Secret Harbor. A place whose name seems especially appropriate when approached by sea, as you would never know it was there almost until you get there.

We dropped an anchor as the sea state went from rough to perfectly calm in a matter of seconds, adding to the magical effect.

We launched the inflatable dinghy, and got everyone on board for a quick mini-adventure over to the dinghy-dock, as Vanessa got to show off her truly impressive small-boat handling skills.

Our group enjoyed a variety of delicious offerings from the Sunset Grill, and our non-swimmer got to enjoy some wading in the clear, gentle waters the small Harbor almost always offers.

Once the group was back on board with their leftover gourmet pizzas, we pulled anchor and made the short but somewhat wild and "bumpy" voyage out to Christmas Cove, where again the protection of Great St. James transformed the cranky seas into a clear and tranquil pool.

Anchoring near Fish Cay, I was first to jump in just to confirm the anchor had set well. What I saw was an anchor deeply set in sand, surrounded by four very curious and adorable trunk fish. There were also two sting-rays and several sea stars directly under the boat, in about 12 feet of water.

So as soon as our guests were back in the water, which didn't take long due to their sheer enthusiasm, they were able to enjoy watching all those same critters I had seen, as well as many more all around Fish Cay.

This group was equally passionate about sunbathing up forward on the spacious trampoline, and more than one afternoon nap was enjoyed deep in a bean-bag chair.

Meanwhile the cockpit of the catamaran was the center of the all day party, as the music never stopped being enjoyed by all, and by the afternoon there was some singing and a little bit of dancing noticed.

All in all, another perfect day, despite the sea conditions some old sailors would call "spirited"-- there were four big grins as our new friends disembarked, promising to return!

More of the BVI
Day three of four

We didn’t see the sun all day but we didn’t let that put a damper on the fun. We had a wonderful sail back towards Tortola. We stopped off for a nice little snorkel stop at Monkey Point on Guana Island. The breeze was nice and with the cloud cover it really made for a cool relaxing day.
We then headed over to Cane Garden bay for the night. We rescued a broken dinghy as soon as we got moored up. After dinner we dropped these guys off on shore for some night life, which was a lot of fun. When we went back to pick them up we found some guys who couldn’t find their dinghy. We told them that surely it was just a mistake by someone who was too drunk to recognize their own dinghy :~). Now that is drunk :~).
We took them around to all the boats looking for their dinghy. And sure enough, we found it. Those people explained that when they got to the dock they couldn’t find their dinghy so they just grabbed that one. Who does that?!? That’s not the right way to handle that situation :~). Well we had an adventure and got our new friends back on board their dinghy :~). So much fun.

Quote of the day…….when we found their dinghy one of the guys asked…….”what are you doing with my dinghy”. If you have to ask, something’s not right :~).

Capt Michelle’s first official delivery

Last weekend when we were in Tortola, we picked up a lagoon for a couple who had just purchased her. We took the ferry over there and brought their boat back.
Night before last night we climbed on board and went over to Christmas cove for a beautiful evening. At 2am, we jumped up, hoisted full sails and headed for St Croix. It was a beautiful night sail with winds around 10kts and smooth seas. We pulled into St Croix shortly after sunrise. It’s 33 nautical miles. We met the new owners and relaxed as we waited for their puppy to fly in on her private flight :~).
As soon as they picked her up, we were off again to make the trip back to St Thomas. Winds were up a bit and the seas were a little bumpy :~).
Just out of the marina we had a pod of dolphins join us for a little bit. So awesome :~).
The puppy did super well and only got excited when the bo***es, that were swooping down and catching the flying fish, came close over her head. Can’t really blame her though…. I get excited when bo***es are close to my head as well :~)
It was a beautiful sunset and an all around amazing day of sailing :~).
Really!!….. who can beat sailing, dolphins, and bo***es over head, while sitting next to the most amazing woman alive!!!!??

The princess and her peeps

The little princess brought her whole crew with her :~).
They came in on a cruise ship so we only had time for two stops.
Maho, on St John is always a favorite. They looked for turtles, paddle boarded and even played on the beach some.
We then had more fun on the front side of Lovango Cay before Capt Michelle rolled out the front sail and headed back to St Thomas.

Quote of the day……… I tossed the paddleboard in the water and our little princess swam up and grabbed ahold. She said I could let go of it. When I told her that I needed to wait until a grown up has it, she just smiled and said……”memes got it!” No doubt that meme is her go to and always “has it” :~).
