Today is the day! St. John's own Jeff Miller is attempting to be the first person to swim from Virgin Gorda to St. John - a 15.5 mile swim across the open waters of the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

Tripadvisor's 2023 Traveler's Choice Best Beaches in the World list is out, and St. John has TWO in the top 15 - Trunk and Maho! And while it is beyond impressive that our tiny, green rock is home to two of the top beaches in the entire world, I also find it entertaining that there are at least three better beaches they didn't even mention.

But some secretes are better kept than shared. If you know, then you know.

Our guests last week landed a nice wahoo while out on the water and were able to enjoy fresh sashimi and ceviche when they got back to the house.

Not an angler but you still enjoy fresh fish? Then just cruise over to Calabash Market and check out their fresh daily caught seafood options less than 10 minutes from Casa YaYa. Fresh and local caught tuna, wahoo and mahi mahi are usually available.

Or keep it super simple and just head over to Skinny Legs and order the blackened mahi mahi sandwich and a cold painkiller.

As 2022 draws to a close, we just wanted to say thank you to all of our friends, family and guests who have made our first two years of Casa YaYa ownership so special. We truly enjoy sharing our little slice of paradise with you and hope you will make plans to come and visit again. We look forward to welcoming you back.

We have some exciting news to share with our Casa YaYa group, we now offer a custom-built truck rental as an add-on for our guests!

Our Toyota Tundra seats up to 6 guests in the cab, and another 4 in the bed of the truck with seat belts and a sturdy canopy. That means you can haul up 10 people around our little island in style, and keep all the sandy coolers and chairs and wet swimmers in the back of the truck.

We are priced below other rentals on St. John and St. Thomas. And the truck even gets delivered to you curbside at the St. Thomas airport when you land! Our goal is to help our guests simplify the arrival process, save some money and enjoy a vehicle that was engineered specifically for our little island with 4-wheel drive, automatic transmission and the TRD off-road kit. Did we mention the paddle board rack!?!

Tomorrow (9/27) is World Tourism Day, and we thought it would be fun to celebrate by asking this question of the group: What is your perfect St. John day?

Imagine you've just woken up in paradise at Casa YaYa and the sun is shining. . . Where do you go? What do you do? Where do you eat lunch or dinner? Where do you stop for Happy Hour? What do you order? Describe your perfect day in paradise!

We often get asked if this is still a good time of year to come to St. John, since it's off-season and some of the restaurants and boat charters are closed. Which is true. But it also means the island is delightfully quiet.

This was last week at Maho Bay, just me and the turtles. And I capped off the day with a breathtaking sunset view sitting right at the original bar at Windmill Bar talking to just a handful of people there. So yes, this time of year is still a great time to come down to St. John.

Just 5 years ago today, this was the reality that St. John residents were facing. A level of destruction previously unknown after category 5 hurricane Irma pummeled the island with sustained winds of 180+ mph for hours. This was the first category 5 hurricane to ever hit St. John, and was followed by a second, hurricane Maria, a mere two weeks later.

But St. John did what St. John does, it came together to rebuild and heal as a community. We didn't yet own Casa YaYa, but these pictures serve as a stark reminder to the awesome power of Mother Nature.

We appreciate and celebrate everyone who helped bring this special island back. If you lived on-island and helped rebuild, or you donated money to the recovery or even were just quick to come back and spend your hard-earned dollars here. The world is a much better place with St. John preserved the way it is. A special place with a lot of special people working to keep it that way.
