Post-Covid escape to normalcy plan #10: As soon as this Covid circus is over, I’m going to enjoy an evening of food, drink and live music at Pickles in Paradise. (Accidentally our escape plan #11 was posted right after plan #9, and is being followed by plan #10. Hopefully that’s the only thing “wrong” with our plans.) If it’s Lindsey’s Veggie Night, some veggie summer rolls with Thai peanut dipping sauce and sriracha soy noodles will start the night off just right, then a plate of je**ed spiced local pumpkin, lime ‘n’ cumin black beans and rice, and some Dahl with cilantro. That should supply enough energy to stay all night grooving or skanking to whatever local musicians are on stage...T-Bird and friends, Hidden Driveway, 12 Tears or Inner Visions. I wonder what the bar specials will be.

Post-Covid escape to normalcy plan #11: as soon as this Covid worldwide Marshall law practice run is over, I’m going to find The Triple B truck wherever it is parked in Coral Bay and order up everything on the menu that morning, and there will be no leftovers. That includes a large cup of each of all 3 kinds of coffee, at least one of every just-made morning pastry, and whatever special fresh breakfast entrees are offered, scrambled egg soft flour tacos with charred tomatillo salsa and roasted garlic crema, Italian sausage and poached egg on toasted ciabatta buns with roasted peppers and onions and tomato basil hollandaise, loaded huervos rancheros with roasted red peppers and jalapeño cilantro crema...add the homemade sausage, challah French toast with pineapple coconut creme & salted caramel toasted coconut, any and all veg-head combos on that days menu hopefully including roasted madras local pumpkin and toasted pumpkin seed, and whatever else is on the menu including Bloody Mary’s and other breakfast cocktails. Get there before they open, buy it all, and get to the shoreline and feast, as soon as the Covid worldwide Marshall law practice run is over.

Post-Covid escape to normalcy plan #9: as soon as this covid circus is over, I‘m getting myself out to Shipwreck Landing, another mile down the shore from our last escape plan. There‘s almost always great live music, so it will be an evening trip. I’ll start with a bushwacker, but please put it in a plastic cup (I’d hate to break a nice glass by accident) and hold the chocolate syrup and whipped cream (I like them both but maybe on a dessert.) Some gazpacho, and mussels provencal with grilled garlic bread to mop up the white wine garlic broth is all a person needs to fill up and feel good. But since I’m hoping Reverend Raven and the Chainsmoking Altarboys will be tearing the place up, an entree for extra energy to help survive the crush of the tiny dancefloor is required. Will it be curry-nut crusted chicken, their legendary fish and chips, or one of their seafood or beef choices? I’ll just let the vibe guide me, as soon as this Covid circus is over. Hey Rev, pass the tip bucket over here.

Post-Covid escape to normalcy plan #8: as soon as this Covid crap is over, I’m going to do a pub crawl out on the southwest shore or Coral Bay harbor. There won’t be any distance to travel, just some time travel. (Yeah, we’ve been living in caves so long, you can now travel back in time, you’ll see, as soon as this Covid crap is over.) Stop in at the Thirst Donkey and check out several rounds at the bloody Mary bar. Then on to Skipper’s Brit Pub, switch to a different cocktail and might as well enjoy a sausage roll. Then it‘s Sweet Plantains, see what rare rums are available, and a little more to eat, some tostones and a couple plates of yuca fries. No entrees tonight, but can’t wait to come back for some east- and west-Indian curry plates, one for dinner, one to take home. Then the night ends in mid-morning the next day at The Seabreeze. There probably won’t be many memories of being there, but the tall tales later wil become legendary, as soon as this Covid crap is over.

Post-Covid escape to normalcy plan #7: As soon as this Covid thing is over, I hope Fred’s Flamingo Club has an Ol‘ Tyme Jump Up some evening. I’d love to jump around to the quelbe * sounds of Koko and the Sunshine Band, and enjoy plenty of local food and drink prepared by Coral Bay folks. Community, spirit, dance, fun. (* quelbe was previously “spell-uncorrected” to Quebec, a big difference.)

Post-Covid escape-to-normalcy plan #6: as soon as this Covid situation is over and we can go back out into the world around us, I am heading to Island Blues for an “all afternoon and evening day” of chilling by the bay. Starting with some light lunch and cocktails until The Iguanas perform from 4-6pm, then on to supper and probably more cocktails before Locals On The 8’s rock the joint from 8-11pm. “Coral Bay’s calling, and I live by the bay!” It‘s been way too long since we had an opportunity like that...it seems like years of Covid.

26/01/2021

Post-Covid escape plan #5: as soon as this Covid situation is cleaned up, I’m heading down to the Coral Bay dinghy dock early to hitch a ride out to Angel’s Rest, and ride along with Capt./Bartender Pete as he takes her out to Round Bay for the day, blasting the best beach/summer/laid-back music while he serves Rum Punch Painkillers (yes that’s really 2 different drinks but they become the same rather quickly) and beer to the guests that swim out to his mooring. No food served, so planning on a liquid lunch, just as soon as this Covid situation is cleaned up.
