Having just returned from our holiday in Vietnam here are some observations which you may find useful:
- Grab is your friend. Download the app and connect a credit card. It works very well and there is no hassle with payment. We used to a lot and never had issues.
- ATMs… Vietnam is still largely cash so you need atms. However with the fixed fees to your home bank it’s worth getting out as much as you can per withdrawal. Some machines only pay out 2-3 million at a time, but if you are in Hanoi, use HSBC which is 9 million. You may have to set of a little time to find the right bank for you as much of the advice on where you can pick up larger amounts probably depends on your own bank. I at least could not always use the advice I got.
- Streaming. Be aware that only a few of the services operate in Vietnam. Netflix works but neither HBO or Disney worked. This makes a difference if you are looking for entertainment for your flight home. Btw, we flew Vietnamese Airlines and the inflight entertainment was fairly poor.
- Crowds… The Vietnamese likes crowds and loud music and some of the main attractions “suffer” somewhat from that; in the eyes of a tranquility loving Dane at least. To mind comes the trip in a banana-boat which was sheer terror on our nerves. Sooo many people and loud music even out on the water. The kids loved it though…
- Sim-cards. We bought a SIM card at the airport and it worked very well also with regards to data.
- The quality of the tailors is good so set of time at the beginning of your visit to visit one and have a few things made. Of course it’s not Saville Row, but make a small order first and see if you are satisfied. The best is to find pictures of what you like in advance.
- Leather goods. We bought some bags in HoiAn and I was afraid that it was too good to be true, but it’s really very good quality at very affordable prices (which by the way vary a great deal from shop to shop).
Hoi An on a Summer Afternoon
In the afternoon, when the streets are empty of people, you can feel the tranquility and peace of Hoi An. The rows of bougainvillea are as vibrant as sparkling chandeliers, adding to the beauty of the old town. In addition, the mossy red tile roofs are hidden behind rows of lush green trees, which is so peaceful and romantic...
The Slow Boat is a unique and rewarding cruise, perfect for exploring the exotic and beautiful scenery of the north in comfort. Cruising down the Mekong can be very relaxing. You will develop a sense of serenity being absorbed by the physical pull of the river and its surrounding lush green landscape. Gliding smoothly on the river you will soak up the slow-paced atmosphere as we wave to the friendly, smiling locals we see on our way to Luang Prabang.

🌻
I see trees of green
Red roses too
I see them bloom
For me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
I love you
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
Than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Ooh, yes
Hanoi in rainy day ♥️🌻

Having enjoyed a cup of freshly brewed Vietnamese coffee or finest quality tea from @TheTeaArtisans, dive into your private pool at one of 21 Beach Pool Villas at Zannier Hotels Bãi San Hô in Phu Yen - the ciry which is located between Nha Trang and Danang city, and admire the calming view of your very own piece of Bay of Corals, whose native translation inspired the name of our beachfront resort.

Together with Borobudur Temple, Prambanan is one of the landmarks of Yogyakarta. A UNESCO Heritage Site and a place with a fascintating history, this temple is a must-see when visiting Java Island. Prambanan is recognized the biggest Hindu Temple in Indonesia and the second largest in Southeast Asia, after Angkor Wat trmple in Cambodia. Actually, the first thing I noticed when I arrived at Prambanan was how similar it is to Angkor Wat. #indonesia #prambanantemple
