🤩This week we present to you the province of An Giang. Best known for the capital of Chau Doc, but the majority of international tourists pass through there so quickly only to take the speedboat to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Too bad because this province has so much to offer. Mainly composed of flat land with several orchards and rice fields like the rest of the Mekong Delta, it stands out with its few mountains that dot the landscape. ⛰⛰⛰

The first mountain group where we stopped when arriving from Phu Quoc is in the department of Tri Ton. We visited a magnificent Khmer pagoda and a lake perched on top of one of the mountains. ⛰🛕⛰

Then we went to the largest mountain in the region, Mount Cam, which is also the most visited by local tourists since the construction of its new cable car.🚡⛰

Not far from there, on the flat land, we visited the Tra Su nature reserve by boat. It is a reserve that contains the largest number of bird species in the Mekong Delta. We had an amazing tour there. Definitely a place to put on your list for a visit to the delta. It's easily in our top 3 of all attractions we've seen so far! 🛶🦤🕊🐦

While strolling in An Giang we saw several kiosks selling jaggery juice. This juice is extracted from a local palm tree. They collect the sap to make an excellent sweet juice. After tasted it, we decided to go see a producer to learn more about this product. We could see how they turn the sap into sugar, a bit like we make our maple syrup in Canada.🌴🌴🌴🍹🍯

Afterwards we went around Chau Doc to visit Mount Sam and some of its many pagodas.
We also visited the Chau Doc market known for its fermented fish and shrimp sauces and ate another local specialty on the spot: Snakehead fish soup with turmeric.🐟🍜

We completed our visit in An Giang with a boat trip to the floating village and visited the Cham weavers. The Cham people who live in the region have now adopted the Muslim religion, so we took the opportunity to also visit a Mosque and taught Kim this different religion that she did not yet know. 🪡🧥👘🥻🕌

You can see all that and more in the following video. Don't forget to activate the English subtitles 😉

Have you ever been in Phu Quoc? If yes, what is your favorite part?

Here is the second part of Phu Quoc Island. This video begins with a visit to the Vinpearl safari. Superb place for children with animals in semi freedom. 🦓🦒🐘🐫🦍🐅🐑

Then we went to VinWonders, a gigantic amusement park with 6 themes including a very cool water park (kids best). Another must visit place for a family visit to Phu Quoc. 🏰🎡🎢🎠⛲️

During our stay in this section of the island we stayed in a Homestay inside the Grand World village of Phu Quoc and the first evening of our arrival we attended a Venetian-style musical comedy including fountains and pyrotechnics. Majestic !
And the next day we were able to attend another dance show in the street, with people dressed up like in Venice. We even took a little gondola ride! 🎹💃🏽💃🏽⛲️🕺🏻🕺🏻 🎻 🎭🛶

After 3 days filled with activities, we took a day off in a 5-star hotel to relax and enjoy the swimming pool in the shape of a giant shell. We cheated on the first night of our break and went to take videos of the Phu Quoc night market for you, since it was not too far. 🏡🛏🏊‍♀️🌃

After the 5 star we went to the other extreme by going camping at the beach. Fortunately there was a concrete installation with a roof, because it rained from the afternoon until late at night. Our camping spot was located in the northern part of the island and we could see Cambodia on the horizon. This part of the island is still only little developed, therefore more authentic. We took a boat trip there to snorkel and catch fish that we were able to eat that evening along with several other shellfish. A half-day tour including a delicious seafood and fish meal for only $25 per person! 🏕🏝🚤🤿🎣

After all these adventures, we left Phu Quoc by ferry to reach Ha Tien where we visited a mountain filled with caves before continuing our journey and leaving the province of Kien Giang. ⛰

This week we are taking you with us to the province of Kien Giang which includes the island of Phu Quoc! A paradise island at the soutern-west part of Vietnam, right next to Cambodia. 🏝😍🏖

It is one of the most touristic places in Vietnam, but since tourism has not yet recovered well since the pandemic, there were not too many people and it was very pleasant to visit. We decided to spend 15 days there to have time to do all the tourist attractions and give you a complete report. So much things to doin Phu Quoc that we had to split the video into two parts.

In the following video we present you the southern part of the island which includes our arrival in the province by the port city of Rach Gia where we visited the museum of the province for the "worldschooling" side of our adventures. 👩‍🏫👨‍👩‍👧‍👧🏦

We then took the ferry in the afternoon to go to Phu Quoc where we took an apartment for the beginning of our stay.
The next day we went to refresh ourselves at the Suoi Tranh stream.🏞

We visited the Ho Quoc pagoda, the most important on the island in a very beautiful natural setting. 🛕

The first beach where we bathed was Bai Sao beach, the most famous on the island. And we went parasailing pulled by a boat Kim and I. Exceptional experience and incredible view!!! 🏖🪂

Another important museum to visit during a visit in Kien Giang province is the old prison. Very intersting to see the reality that Vietnamese prisoners had to undergo during the French occupation. 😢

Just after, to change the vibes, we went to the small island of Hon Thom completely at the southern tip of Phu Quoc. To get there we took the longest sea cable car in the world. Once we arrive ther the kids can play in one of the largest water park in Vietnam. 🚋🏝

On the way back we stopped on the Long Beach to admire the sunset at the most famous place to take pictures with the last rays. 🌅📸🌅

The next day we visited a pearl farm and a factory producing the famous fish sauce. Phu Quoc has a very good reputation for these two products.💍🐟

We then checked into a mini eco resort where we had a great time. 🌴🛖🌴

One evening we had dinner nearby at the mango resort, very popular places for the food, the decor and the view! 🌅🍽

Last activity of this first part, it was in the northern part, it ended well this video, we were at the end of a dirt road to then take a small boat which brought us to a deserted beach filled with stars from the sea. Out time there was so wonderful that we spent the whole afternoon there until sunset ⭐️🏄

Don't forget to activate the Emglish subtitles and don't hesitate to use the chapters to go to the sections that interest you the most. Let us know which is the place you wouldn't want to miss if you come to visit Phu Quoc in the comments.

This week we present you the province of Hau Giang. One of the most rural and authentic provinces of the Mekong Delta. Despite the lack of tourist attractions, it is a very pleasant province to visit. 😍🤩😍
In the following video we take you to discover the Nga Bay market 🥥🍌🥬🐁🐍🥮, have a picnic at the Bamboo Garden 🎋🎋🎋🥡🥢, learn how to make the famous water hyacinth baskets 🧺🧺🧺, visit a mushroom farm🍄🍄🍄 and a barn full of jackfruit😋😋😋

The style of this video is different than the previous one we made. More interviews, less narration (subtitled translated in English of course). Let us know your favorite style in the comments and let us know if you have any places or things you would like to see in our Vietnam videos. For now, I let you discover the beauties of the delta with the wonderful province of Hau Giang and its happy inhabitants!

Here is the video of our visit to Soc Trang province. Known for its many colorful Khmer pagodas, including the one with the largest reclining Buddha in Vietnam and another with huge bats. 🛕⛩🛕🦇🦇🦇

The video begins with our visit to the small floating market located at the confluence of 5 rivers. Not huge, but very enjoyable with the chance to eat morning soup on the little boat. 🛶🍌🍉🍍🥬🥕🍠🛶

We then moved on to the p*s cake factory. A sweet specialty from the Mekong Delta, the best of which are made here in Soc Trang. 🥐🥧🍰 (that's none of the 3 emojis, but imagine a mix of the 3 and that's pretty much the Banh Pia)

Leaving Banh Pia restaurant, we ate another local specialty: Bun Nuoc Leo. A delicious fish and seafood soup. 🍜🐟🦐🦑🍜

In the last part, you will see another bird sanctuary. Much smaller than Bac Lieu, but I liked the proximity we had with the birds. 🕊🐦🪶🕊

You will find all this in the following video. You have English subtitles and chapters to help you understand and jump to the parts that interest you the most.

Here is the video of our visit to the province of Bac Lieu. Mainly known because of its huge bird sanctuary. We of course visited it, but we also had a great time at the water park, at lunchtime we ate excellent seafood, and then went for a raft ride in a mangrove forest. We also visited the church of Tac Say, the pagoda of Ba Nam Hai and for the sunset we walked above the sea at the wind farm of Bac Lieu. On the way back we passed by a beautiful Khmer temple and ended our visit to Bac Lieu at the best restaurant in town. All this in detail in the following video:

Ca Mau is the southernmost province of Vietnam. The Southern Point National Park is the main attraction. We stayed there in a small homestay that offered a boat tour in the mangrove forests with a small tour on the high seas to see the sun set on the southernmost land of the country. It was one of the best experiences so far.

The tour in a small electric bus to see the monuments that highlight the southern point is also very pleasant. The place is a bit difficult to reach (10h from Saigon or 6h from Can Tho), but is really worth it.

Ca Mau has a second national park called U-Minh Ha. We went too, but there was no tour inside the park at this time of year. It was still an interesting visit thanks to the visit of a wildflower garden with facilities for taking family photos. And especially thanks to our camping night on the tourist farm of Huong Trang. We were able to take a nice walk in the forest on the outskirts of the national park and play in the water games on site.

A must in Ca Mau is obviously the seafood. You absolutely have to taste the crab, shrimp and lobster when you pass by here. And if you want to go more local, you can take the local specialty, the turtle cooked in coarse salt.

During our stay we also visited the Kim Son pagoda and the Khmer temple Monivongsa Bopharam

We are approaching the southern tip of Vietnam. Bac Lieu is the second southernmost province of the country. 🇻🇳

The capital theatre is magnificent with its architecture in the shape of a conical hat. 🎭

The seaside is full of mangroves and we went to see them closer with a raft on a small channel in the middle of the mangroves. We had a lot of fun pushing the raft forward with a long bamboo stick. 🚣

The main tourist attraction not to be missed in Bac Lieu is the bird sanctuary. One of the biggest and most impressive in Vietnam. We loved taking the tour even though the maintenance need some improvement. 🕊

Bac Lieu is on the edge of the sea, but as it is the exit from the Delta, the beach is muddy, so we been to the water park to have a swim. The girls had a lot of fun and didn't want to leave! 🌊🏊🎡

Right next to the water park, we ate freshly caught crab, shrimp and squid at a ridiculously low price. 🦀🦐🦑

We also visited the church of Tac Say also known as the Church of Father Diep since there are several statues of this Vietnamese priest who was canonized in 2012. His memory is adored by both Buddhists and Catholics because he dedicated is live and was kind to all the people in the area during his lifetime. ⛪️

There was also an important Buddhist temple in the area. The Ba Nam Hai temple is located by the sea. It is a temple dedicated to Quan Am, bodhisattva of compassion. The land behind the temple is a huge garden with the statues of the 33 reincarnations of Quan Am.⛩

Finally, we went to see a wind farm by the sea at sunset. We enjoyed the beautiful view there and took the time to explain to Kim why it is important and although the Vietnamese government is building more and more of these wind farms across the country.🌬💨

After visiting Tra Vinh we arrived in Soc Trang by ferry crossing a big Mekong river arm at sunset. Kids have fun with the duck-moto! ⛴🦆🏍
Soc Trang province is also strongly influenced by the Khmer culture. So we visited several beautiful pagodas there, including Som Rong built in 1785 and with the largest reclining Buddha in Vietnam.🤩
We also visited the Mahatup pagoda with its huge bats perched in the trees. 🦇
The town of Soc Trang is famous for durian flavored buns (Banh Pia). So we went to the biggest factory of Banh Pia to see how they made the cakes and taste all the different flavors.😋
We also visited the small Nga Nam floating market located at the confluence of 5 rivers/canals.🚣
And finally a bird sanctuary that look basic, but there were a lot of birds at sunset and it was a very pleasant moment. 🕊

The 3rd province we visited is Tra Vinh. It is one of the most authentic provinces of the Delta with a very large Khmer presence. We visited several Theravada Buddhism temples there (Buddhism practiced in Cambodia and other countries further west). Our first stop was on the island of Con Chim (bird island) which is located on one of the wide branch of the Mekong rivers separating the province of Ben Tre and Tra Vinh.

Our visit to this island was very improvised. We decided to stop there at the last minute since we arrived late at the ferry and had to take two to get to the Tra Vinh side. And we would have had to drive an extra hour to get to the hotel.

Fortunately, while waiting for the first ferry we noticed that there was another small island with beautiful homestay. So we decided to go there and when we arrived, we learned that this island is a new project dedicated to eco-tourism in partnership with Canada. What a great discovery!

Our bungalow was sublime. We ate a delicious meal of locally caught prawns. The next day we learned how to fish for crab and how to make sweet rolls with coconut sauce. The atmosphere on this small island is authentic and the way of life remains traditional.

I highly recommend the place if you visit the Mekong Delta. Once on dry land, it is pleasant and complementary to visit the many Khmer temples. There is also the largest church in southern Vietnam. With these attractions and its rustic charm, Tra Vinh brings a certain serenity to the visitors who pass through it.

The second stop on our Mekong Delta tour was Ben Tre province. We started our visit with the classic tourist boat ride to compare with the one done the day before in My Tho (Tien Giang). Then we took a ferry to sleep in a homestay on the island of Con Oc (Snail Island). The next day after a good breakfast on the edge of the river, we went to visit the bird sanctuary of Vam Ho a little further south. We didn't see many birds, but had a lot of fun and camped there. On the way to the next destination, we also stopped on the side of the road to see how the coconut wood chopsticks are made.

The first Mekong Delta province we visited was Tien Giang. We stayed in a very pleasant little homestay 10 minutes from the center of the city of My Tho. During our visit we did the classic tour of the island of Thoi Son (tourist trap, but pleasant without tourists) 😉 We also visited the Vinh Trang pagoda, a Zen monastery, a snake farm, a pineapple farm, a woman who makes handcrafted carpet and we had a sweet tooth at the Kimmy chocolate factory (it's also the nickname of our daughter Kim). Tet (Lunar New Year) is the most important holiday of the year in Vietnam. During the 2 weeks of the festival, the Vietnamese take the opportunity to visit their families. They return to their native villages and pray for their ancestors. This year, due to the restrictions due to the Covid, we decided to stay in Saigon since the family village in the north requires quarantine to visit it.

The restrictive measures for the Covid are gradually falling and that's why we decided to start our vlog with a video on the new year of the Tiger full of promise. We hope that the borders between provinces and between countries will gradually reopen throughout our journey to bring you with us to new adventures!

Hi everyone and welcome to the page of Happy Trip Family!
For the Year of the Tiger (2022), our family decided to travel all over Vietnam to discover the 63 provinces of this beautiful country!
Our story started 10 years ago when I (Maxime) left my hometown (Montreal, Canada) to travel around the world. At that time, I was a videographer doing a travel vlog as well as interviews to make a documentary when I got back. In the end, I never came back, because my world tour ended halfway when I met my wife, Theu. When I met her, she ran a small guesthouse in the Mekong Delta.

Together we have built a small network of eco-housing across the country (Nguyen Shack). We have also built a family with our 2 beautiful little girls: Kim, 7 years old and An, 2 years old.

Our eldest daughter was born and raised in the Nguyen Shack. So she grew up surrounded by people from all over the world. She also travelled a lot with us.

Unfortunately, our little An was not so lucky. As she was born just at the start of the Covid. So she didn't have the chance to travel a lot.

As you know, the hospitality sector has been strongly impacted and we have had to close most of our Nguyen Shacks to keep only one (Nguyen Shack Phong Nha)... These last 2 years have given us time to review our priorities. So we decided to put everything on hold for 2022 and go on an adventure together to introduce An to the magnificent country of Vietnam! It's also an opportunity for me to make new videos, but this time under the name of the Globe-Trotteuse Family.

Since we have worked in the travel industry in Vietnam for a long time, we now know almost everything about the country. Before, we always recommended special places that we heard about from other customers. Now it's time for us to go discover these places for ourselves!
