I only had two nights and one full day in Hue so I decided to book a tour and called Thuan. I am not the "get on the tour bus with 20 other travelers and a guide with a microphone" type of traveler. If I am going to arrange a tour, I prefer a small group or a private guide. Thuan agreed to meet me at my
hotel and to discuss tour options. We ended up agreeing on a two day booking for a day in Hue and then a trip to Hoi An, where my next hotel was booked. Thuan arrived promptly the next morning with our driver, Tiger. He had a great day planned for me with a trip to the D**g Ba Market, the Citadel and the Purple Forbidden City, a boat ride on the Perfume River, a terrific lunch at a local restaurant, and then afternoon visits to the tombs of Minh Mang and Khai Dinh. Thuan is very personable and extremely knowledgable and his English is easy to understand. He stressed throughout my tour that he was flexible and aimed to make his client happy. He truly takes pride in his work and is very professional. He also has a great sense of humor, which is always an asset in my book. By the end of my two days, I felt like we were old friends. The second day was a bit rainy, but we still managed to do some great things on the way to Hoi An, including a stop at a local fishing village, a visit to the Monkey Mountain pass above Da Nang, the Museum of Cham Sculpture, a hike up the Marble Mountains, and a quick visit to China Beach before my hotel dropoff. I actually felt a bit sad to say goodbye to Thuan. He helped really make my visit to Hue special. I would not hesitate to recommend his services if you are looking for a top notch tour with VIP treatment.
