Been a busy few months building and now getting into the swing of welcoming guests back to the island 🏝️ Proud of these lads which have gone above and beyond in helping. When and his YouTube entourage showed up we had a plan of what we wanted to achieve in 7days and everything was listed on a priority list. Right at the top was landing a monster barcod and eating every single bit of the fish, leaving nothing to waste. I do enjoy the challenge trying to achieve these crazy quests. However I was definitely feeling the pressure on this one as the weather wasn’t playing the game and we were running out of time. Was super stoked when we managed to land this monster at the end of the trip.
Shout out to chef Joe who made delicious meals with the fish and was shared amongst us all. Eating fish gills was something new 🤯

Over 500million years old is the lineage of the Nautilus. To witness one feeding on a lobster molt is such a rare phenomenon. Only 3 places in the world is it possible to even have a chance at seeing them while snorkelling; Vanuatu, Loyalty Islands and New Caledonia. Check out this coconut crab nestled up in this hollow branch. Pretty rare to see them during the day as they are nocturnal. These guys are delicious eating but take years to grow too full size. I have had a ban on hunting them here on Kwakea island for years and the numbers are starting to come back up. “Got it 🎯! Jump jump jump” - “Oooo faaarken!” . This may look hard but I’d say it still looks harder then you’d think. Just spotting the fish is the first challenge. Then to keep your balance whilst on a moving boat as you throw the spear with as much power as you can at a darting fish and remain standing on the boat and hit the target is pretty skilful. Just didn’t quite finish it off with a quick front somersault dive to secure the fish.
