Philip Armstrong has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the construction industry. Starting out as an employee with his father's firm, MJ Armstrong & Son, he brought his joinery specialism to the company and, after completing his 4 year apprenticeship, soon became a partner. The business sub-contracted to Raby Estates which involved maintaining and restoring heritage properties using or
iginal materials such as stone slates and lime render. In contrast to this, MJA sub-contracted to Durham University which meant that work involved maintaining the ancient buildings such as Hild and Bede College but also replacing the roofs and windows of the newer colleges and teaching buildings. Private clients were also catered for and Philip and his colleagues built modern extensions, garden walls, fitted timber windows and constructed whole houses and even a swimming pool! The skills required for this wide range of work, formed Philip's repertoire, meaning that as well as working on his timber projects of doors and windows, he learned to turn his hand to plastering, roof repairs and replacement, house construction and tiling. In March 2012 Philip set up his own company, Philip Armstrong Construction Ltd, as this model of business could more easily facilitate larger construction projects. Maintaining his links with Raby Estates, his father and a sub-contractor today maintain and repair properties all over Teesdale. In March 2015 work began on the construction of 2 new homes in Aycliffe Village alongside other work with private clients all over County Durham.
