When you think of the Maldives, do
images of Robinson Crusoe type islands with soft sandy beaches, turquoise crystal clear waters & palm trees spring to mind?

But did you know there are over 160 (& counting) islands to choose from & each and every one are so different from each other.

Each island offers something unique, from barefoot luxury, exemplary sustainable credentials, or outstanding marine life.

With international luxury brands such as St Regis & Ritz Carlton offering an island paradise for discerning clientele with excellent cuisine & service to match, there are also smaller boutique offerings that excel in a simpler feet in the sand experience, & a focus on its outstanding natural surroundings.

But how do you choose which island is perfect for you?

This is where I can play a pivotal role in selecting various islands that align not only with your budget, but with key features that you require for an optimum stay.

Choosing between all inclusive or half board?
A sea plane or speed boat transfer?
A house reef for optimum snorkelling or perhaps Padi diving?
Island hopping for a varied experience.
Kids club/babysitting?
Adult only or family friendly
Small island feel, or larger island with Padel/tennis/gym & entertainment, are all of the key questions I ask at consultation stage… did you know there is even an island that you can skydive into!

Having visited 4 islands over the last week,(19 islands to date) across the Raa & North Male atoll ,the island site inspections have been a hugely beneficial fact finding trip, whereby I can offer a wealth of up to date knowledge to help create your perfect Maldives trip.

After recently travelling to the Maldives and experiencing a piece of lost luggage for 7 days of an 8 day trip due to the Dubai weather fiasco, I thought it would be a good idea to share some ideas & hindsight which may help to ensure a more seamless experience on your next trip, and make life a little easier, should you experience the same.

1-Buy an Apple AirTag, and insert in your case. This was invaluable to us, just to know where the bag was. Despite it not moving from Dubai Terminal B for 7 days, at least we could manage expectations & not expect it on the next seaplane arrival.

2-Take a photo of your case & its contents & ensure it is locked before it is checked in.
When completing a lost luggage form, as much description of your case & it’s make is key, and a few pics of what was packed could help with any subsequent insurance claim.

3-Keep the baggage receipts on your boarding passes safe, don’t throw these away once onboard as this is vital for tracking your luggage- taking a photo of the serial numbers is a good idea just in case you do lose them.

4-Make sure you have adequate travel insurance, & check the policy to find out the value covered should your bag remains lost & you have to claim for its contents.

4-Keep all valuables/cameras with you in your hand luggage.
Keep chargers etc with you just incase you get delayed & need to recharge your items.
Also keep a good supply of medication with you in your hand luggage.

5-If you can, split your luggage with that of your partner/friend, at least you have a capsule wardrobe just in case of any eventuality. This is so important & could be a game changer.

6-Keep a few basic items in your hand luggage such as bikini/sarong/flip flops -great for also arriving early into resort before your room is ready.
Then you can change into beachwear whilst your room is being prepped & enjoy the sunshine immediately.

7-Book with a travel agent.
We can help with missed flights, missed sea plane connections,securing overnight stays & liaising with airport teams to trace your luggage & delivering it to your current location.

I’m a big fan of Race Across the World and even more excited for this brand new series as it sees contestants travelling through some of my favourite destinations, including Japan, South Korea and Vietnam, before ending on the Indonesian island of Lombok.

Kumu beach Balapitiya 🇱🇰

I hadn’t quite realised when booking this hotel, just how beautiful it is.

An aesthetically pleasing boutique property, hidden away from the main road by a huge wooden door is situated just a few steps away from the ocean & the sound of crashing waves which are simply hypnotic.

A secret doorway in the lush gardens leads you down to a beach where the dreamiest of sunsets await!

The staff are with out doubt attentive, engaging and we received the most natural & warmest of welcomes.
The service here has been exemplary.

In addition , the cuisine here has been some of the best we’ve experienced across the island so far, so we really have saved the best till last.

Nothing is too much trouble, & they are only too happy to assist in booking spas or activities to complement your stay.

Their talented therapist from Bhutan who’s currently working at Fort Bazaar in Galle wowed us with the most relaxing massages, ready for the long flight home tomorrow.

Whilst it seems we’ve been away for ages, I really wish we could stay here for an extra night, or possibly forever!

We were all absolutely delighted to spend the morning with the Foundation of Goodness in Seenigama.

As Bespoke luxury travel’s chosen charity since the start of the year, it was incredibly inspiring to see their amazing work first hand at their centre of excellence.

We had so much fun helping with English speaking skills, mathematics, art, games & singing, along with watching future cricket stars in action.
The children were truly adorable.

FOG has been bridging the urban rural divide since 1999 by empowering rural communities via a holistic rural development model.

Some examples of their work include:

It was incredibly humbling to see past students coming back to volunteer & to see how their careers have flourished under the guidance of FOG.

A huge thanks to Ludmila, Thanuja & Bhavnee for sparing your time, and for allowing us as a family to get involved with the activities at the centre today.

Your passion & inspiration are limitless ❤️🇱🇰

Karpaha sands, a small boutique luxury tented camp experience on the east coast.

COMO Cocoa Island is paradise for anyone who appreciates the pleasures of luxurious seclusion.

A private island, known locally as Makunufushi, it is located in the less developed South Malé Atoll, flanked to the west by a superb diving channel and to the east by a quiet snorkelling reef.

I have never seen such a beautiful & extensive reef, an amazing sandbank and a plethora of marine life literally outside your villa.

Overhanging the water are a number of thatched Dhoni Suites in bleached wood with kajan roofs, along with a selection of one to four-bedroom villas and a number of enchanting white-finished Loft Villas featuring private sundecks and full-length windows overlooking the Indian Ocean.

I stayed in a loft villa and loved the concept, it’s clean white lines & nautical feel, an outdoor shower and access to the shower directly from the lagoon. It was superbly appointed and stunning views of the reef from every villa.

The emphasis is on locally caught seafood at Ufaa Restaurant, where the chefs create delicate South Indian cuisine fused with European influences.

Relax at the Faru bar by the infinity pool where bartenders produce refreshing cocktails and mocktails. It has a wonderfully chic & relaxed vibe, the friendliest of staff and excellent cuisine.

Slip into the warm sea from your open deck, or venture to the scuba centre for a chance to see turtles, rays, tuna or even go on a shark snorkelling trip which was fab, and only 10 minutes away.

For utter rejuvenation the COMO Shambhala Retreat presents massages, yoga in the open-air pavilion and a Pilates studio.
Ayurvedic treatments are available along with a large hydrotherapy pool and relaxation area.

Within minutes of arriving at Como I instantly felt at home, and loved the small island feel.

The staff are engaging and a real asset to the property, I was very sad to leave!

A huge thanks to the wonderful GM Vincent, along with his super team, & a big thanks to Lynette for the site inspection and the warmest of welcomes.

My advice: stay as long as you possibly can, unwind, disconnect and relax, you will not regret it, the location is beautiful!

By The Sea restaurant serves Japanese cuisine to the accompaniment of sakes and stunning ocean views, along with a unique teppanyaki experience.

A dive school will train you to be PADI-certified within a week, sunset and dolphin cruises can be organised and there’s a plethora of watersports from Hobie Cats to surfing at the dedicated Surf Centre.

In the award-winning Meera Spa with its glass-panelled floors, holistic therapies complement Ayurvedic programmes and yoga.

The staff here are all so warm & engaging and just so friendly, you instantly feel at home.

They are environmental stewards who take great strides to protect the rich marine diversity—and safeguard the island for future generations.

A truly wonderful Maldivian escape, expertly managed by the loveliest GM Nicolas and his team.

One of my favourite things in the Maldives is jumping on my bike and cycling to dinner, or exploring the island. I absolutely love it! It’s just so dreamy & atmospheric with all the tree lined sandy paths lit up at night, which provide the perfect backdrop to a wonderful evening. Today is a good day! From 4am this morning, a new simplified travel system came into force, which was extremely welcome. The new system consists of a single red list & a rest of the world list. Fully vaccinated travellers & eligible under 18’s from over 50 countries & territories have simpler, cheaper rules, with just a single post arrival test needed. Later this month, fully vaccinated passengers with an approved vaccine returning to the uk (except from a red list country) will be able to replace a day 2 test, with a cheaper lateral flow test. Hopefully later this week, more countries will be removed from the red list, opening up more availability & choice for the half term holiday & beyond. Travel is thankfully getting a little simpler, and without the expensive/unnecessary tests it will become affordable for more families looking to get away. The Canaries are literally full now for the half term weeks, but if your desperate to get away, please feel free to get in touch for some other great destinations for that well deserved break. Planning now for Feb half term & Easter is highly recommended to secure your preferred accommodation at the best available fare.
