I am very excited to have two of my portrait paintings, "Myles to Go" and "The Thoughts Between" selected to show in "That Face!" art exhibition at the McCord Gallery this month. I am looking forward to the reception next Friday and getting to meet all of the amazing artists in the show! I visited the show today, and there is some incredible work!

Couch Potato Sketch 6/12/22. Me: "Mona!!"... my Students: "Lisa!" This was my go to "Call and Response" for all of my art classes this past school year. It signaled to my students that I needed their attention to tell them something and students act like Mona and quiet down to listen. Calling Mona out got old for me very quickly with all of the classes that I have, but it helped sooo much. I thought it might be a good thing for me to take some time to actually try to draw Leonardo's Mona while on break this summer, and it was fun!

Couch Potato Sketch 5/29/22 of Sasha. I used to be scared of large dogs. I was bitten as a child twice by 2 different large dogs, once at my stomache, so I think it makes sense that I would freeze in fear whenever a large dog would run up to me. But Sasha, a friend's dog, changed that. Sasha was just the sweetest rescue dog that was just the best. I fell in love with her more each time she ran to the door to greet me, so happy to see me and loved any attention she received. I am grateful to have known her, I am more trusting of dogs because of her.

Couch Potato Sketch 4/14/22 of Indie-Folk musician, Gregory Alan Isakov from his recent Chicago concert. After taking some time off to focus on a new art teaching position, I'm making time to get back to my own art again. My son introduced Gregory Alan Isakov's music to me and my husband and now I love painting to his music. We all got to see him in person this past March and it was such an awesome experience! He and his music are inspiring to me, so it's fitting to do my latest Couch Potato Sketch of him.

Getting around to updating my page with some of my work from the past year or two.

This was a painting I did of a picture I took of my son coming back from a day trip to the Art Institute of Chicago with my dad. It was awesome to experience one of my favorite places with them both and I took this pic of him on the way home. This painting is special to me not only because of the day we had with 3 generations of art lovers, but also because it was one of those moments when you see your young adult child and are proud of who his is and excited for their the future ahead...

This trip was right before Covid hit, when we had the freedom to travel without masks.

Points for anyone who sees a hidden reference to his favorite band...

It's complete! I'm excited to use my new wall easel, designed and hand-built by my husband as a gift. I have already broken it in by starting a 36 x 48" painting and it's so nice to have in my studio. The best part is that the easel is adjustable left to right using a French cleat system to accommodate any size canvas or panel as well as vertical up to 6 feet with the floor to ceiling rails. To protect it, I used "Odies Oil" to bring out the maple wood grain and to keep it light. Odies is great stuff and easy to use! This easel is going to get a ton of use and won't stay too clean for long. :)
