Set against a stunning backdrop of lush verdant forests, Kenya’s Diani beach boasts sugar white sands gently lapped by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Whether you spend your time snorkelling, swimming with whale sharks, taking nature walks or lazing in a swaying hammock with a good book, a traditional dhow cruise at sunset is the ultimate way to end your day.

If you’re heading to Uganda, you don’t want to miss checking out the country’s capital city, Kampala. The city offers a buzzing range of restaurants, bars and vibrant markets, where you can tour beautiful temples, cathedrals, art galleries and museums.

Also in Kampala, the popular Ndere Centre is a great place to experience the spectacular performance of colourful, high-energy dancing and music that highlights the lively culture of Uganda.

The final stop on our Zambia tour is the stunning Kafunta River Lodge, which is situated at the edge of the game-rich floodplain and beyond that, lies the Luangwa River – one of the best game viewing areas in the magical South Luangwa National Park.

Kafunta has eight luxurious safari chalets with charming thatched roofs and private viewing decks. The relaxing lounge and dining area offer stunning and undisturbed views of the plain where you can relax on the sofas near the wild mango tree, or the reclining sunbeds by the infinity pool. Tucked away at the foot of a giant fig tree, the intimate Spa offers a variety of massages and treatments which is a great addition to your safari experience.

We enjoyed some sumptuous candlelit meals under the vast African sky, accompanied by hippos wallowing in the waterhole. Your safari here never really ends!

As you ease into the good life at Shawa Luangwa Camp you get unbeatable access to the wildest parts of South Luanga. This small, eco-friendly bush camp overlooking the Luangwa River in the Nsefu Sector is made up of five luxury tents which open entirely on three sides to offer an unblocked 270-degree view over the river and across the park where you can watch elephants come to quench their thirst at the river, all from the comfort of your bed or private wooden deck.

Our game drives here were just incredible! Shawa Luanga is the only safari operator offering Silent Safaris in Luangwa, Electric Land Cruisers are powered by Zambia’s abundant sunshine which means the expert guides can traverse the park quietly, lightly, and with a minimal carbon footprint as well as getting closer to the wildlife without disturbing them.

One of the best experiences here are the meals in the bush. The Shawa team know all the best spots for eating out in the wild where you get to enjoy breakfast or lunch while extending your safari-viewing pleasure.

Situated deep in the South Luanga National Park on the ephemeral Luwi River, we have arrived at the charming and luxurious colonial-style Luwi Camp which is so remote, there are no other camps for miles around. Tranquillity envelops this camp, creating a haven that allows you to be fully immersed in the bush. As you can see my favourite moments include relaxing with a G&T, watching the wildlife from my bed and delicious Zambian-inspired meals in the wild.

Its four safari tents are nestled under a grove of ancient mahogany trees overlooking a floodplain that attracts hippos and elephants. Nearby, a wildlife hide overlooks a lively oxbow lagoon.

The Bushcamp Company specialises in once-in-a-lifetime walking safaris and with six bush camps to visit exploring the spectacular wildlife of the South Luangwa couldn’t be more amazing.

The walks between camps range from two to seven hours a day so definitely not for the faint hearted, thankfully a vehicle takes all the luggage. We will leave our base at Kukaya and set off tomorrow to see them all - it’s going to be a tough day but what an adventure!

We have just arrived at our new home from home, nestled in pristine bush overlooking the permanent water holes, Kukaya Lodge is just 2.5 kilometres from the main gate of the South Luangwa National Park.

This spectacular lodge consists of six beautiful and very spacious tented thatched chalets all boasting outdoor en-suite bathrooms, a comfortable living/dining area, and a deck, as well as a private plunge pool and firepit to make the most of the alfresco safari lifestyle.

If you are looking for privacy and comfort, Kukaya certainly delivers, it’s the perfect spot to relax by your private pool, drink in hand, and watch the wildlife go by. Daily life here includes private game drives, walking safaris, visits to the hide and spa treatments in the heart of the wilderness.

You know you are in the heart of Africa when you wake up to the sound of lions roaring in the distance and hippos snorting in the river. Our stay at the Royal Zambezi has been amazing and the perfect base from which to explore this wild and beautiful area.

The lodge is set against the breathtaking mountain backdrop of the Zambezi Valley Escarpment with fifteen luxurious thatched suites nestled under mature trees, each one carefully positioned to maximise the enjoyment of the surrounding views while retaining complete privacy.

One of our favourite areas is the Sausage Tree bar, situated on a deck suspended above the river, where you can gather for drinks and experience the marvel that is the sunset in the Lower Zambezi Valley with the soothing murmur of the water below.

The spectacular Old Mondoro was the next stop on our visit to the lower Zambezi where we had some of the most incredible wildlife encounters. As you can see, under a canopy of winterthorn trees and bordering the mighty Zambezi River, wild animals are part of this quintessential safari camp, sharing in your daily routine.

This luxurious and intimate camp consists of only 5 chalets, which means you get an authentic and unedited Zambian safari with a “back to the bush” atmosphere that centres around the wildlife and wilderness experience.

The magic of the water means plenty of visits from island-hopping buffalo and elephant, as well as an extreme concentration of hippo. Big cat sightings are common too, with some of the most prolific leopard sightings to be had in Africa.

Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park is one of Africa’s most exclusive and remote locations. In fact UNESCO declared several areas of the Lower Zambezi World Heritage sites, mainly because it is home to a ‘remarkable concentration of wildlife’.

It’s a good idea to venture out to this part of Africa because the Lower Zambezi is famous for its big game, renowned for its mind-blowing herds of elephants and buffaloes, an impressive population of Nile crocodiles, plus predators such as lions, leopards and the African wild dog.

Last night we stayed at the luxurious Lolebezi Lodge - nestled on the banks of the Zambezi River in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. If you are looking to experience a safari of absolute indulgence, Lolebezi should definitely be on your list of places to stay.

The entire lodge is a grand display of opulent splendour with artwork that pays tribute to local culture and craftsmanship and when it comes to comfort and luxury, prepare to be enthralled. Every private suite comes with a sumptuous bathtub, a serene plunge pool, marble vanities, indoor and outdoor showers, and lavish King size beds.

Lolebezi also offers an incredible range of activities like daily game drives, walking safaris, canoeing, fishing and boating trips. I can only say that we have truly experienced Africa at its most authentic.

11/10/2024

We were treated to an awe-inspiring aerial view of the majestic Zambezi River which is teeming with hippos and wildlife. Without any big rains for the last two years it’s extremely low, so you can only imagine what it would look like in full force!

11/10/2024

Imagine waking up to this every morning! Amanzi Camp is the most recently opened camp in the Lower Zambezi and is so exclusive it only has 4 suites. With spectacular river views, it is private, serene, rustic and you are always surrounded by pure African beauty.

I stayed at the exquisite Latitude 15° last night which was an amazing location to meet up with an old friend for dinner. It’s a blend of modern Africa, with a cosmopolitan twist and one of the most stylish hotels I have ever stayed in. Set amidst the beautiful tree-lined avenues on the south-east corner of Lusaka, Latitude 15° is just 20 minutes to the city centre and 30 minutes from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
