Well the temporary hatches have run out of puff a mere 8 years later! Not a bad effort really.

So we’ve put together some old growth Oregon and some well seasoned Merbau..detailed captions below

Nice to get out into Batemans Bay after doing the 500 hour service on the engine..

A nice little clip from Danielle, ‘Mount Pleasant’ pulling into Nelligen to collect the fish and chips (oh, and today’s guests!)

Nice to finally spend some time working on the Mount Pleasant - new gloss white roof paint, new deck paint. Hopefully our next visit will see some varnish touched up. Sadly, we do have some rot in the superstructure to repair, and she is well overdue for a haul out...

So the foredeck hatch has decided to turn into a mushroom farm, and something needs to be done ASAP.

It’s taken some thinking, but I hatched a cunning plan, and made a jig to cut dovetails for the frame.

This is the 3rd use of this timber - it was steps at Danielle’s House, recycled into a day bed, and now recycled into hatches. Oregon frame and Merbau decking.

Yes, it will have wood preservative, because Oregon is prone to rotting. Having said that, the hull and deck timbers are all Oregon and very sound...

Do a test fit on Sunday, and hopefully all good for a little party on board next Friday!

Glorious Autumn day for a run out in the Bay!

20/05/2019

We had an awesome es**rt out in the Bay today. We decided to go for a quick run to Square Head/Long Beach after picking up Cookie from a little holiday with her mum, Sharon.

28/04/2019

We took the ‘Mt Pleasant’ out for a quick run up the river today. Such a lovely Autumn Day. Our good friend Carly was in the marina with her kids, and took some pics as we left the marina.

03/03/2019

Soo, anyone remember that dust storm a few weeks ago? The Mt Pleasant certainly did! I’ve started bring the Gurney high pressure sprayer down with me, as we normally get a fair bit of road grime. This was something else though..

02/02/2019

Nice run up the Clyde River to Nelligen today. Weather forecast was pretty average. As usual, turned out better than expected...

17/12/2018

A productive 5 days and she’s looking much happier. The decks have also had a new coat of paint, all ready for some fun times in January.

12/12/2018

We haven’t been giving the poor old Mt Pleasant the attention she deserves lately (someone has been playing trains too much!)

17/10/2018

The ‘Mt Pleasant’ is getting some love while I’m overseas. Hopefully she’ll be all ready for a short trip south in early November for a local boat show.

Window trim pieces removed from stern and starboard side for removal of old varnish and sanding. 44 pieces so far - not a huge jigsaw puzzle, but could get confusing if the numbering system failed!

Some great photos by Tim Rudder today..

26/08/2018

Took a chance on the weather...and won! Quick run out around the bay with Josie, Tim and Morgan. Lovely!

26/07/2018

Lovely and calm out in the Bay..

26/07/2018

We did an impromptu run today with Kay and Brian. Fish and chips from Innes Boat Shed, and then popped over to my favorite Judges Bay. Beautiful day for it!

26/06/2018

Perfect day on the river...

25/06/2018

Nice day for a run up the river. Early start to be at Nelligen by 0930 when the local classic boat owners are having a run..

15/06/2018

Some minor works - added a bead to the top and bottom of the window pelmets. More work to come with mounting blocks and covers over the joins, but these time consuming details make a big difference...

07/06/2018

Time for some maintenance work. Every 100hrs we change the oil, oil filter, fuel filter and water pump impeller.

It’s not possible to access a sump plug, so that big plastic cylinder thing sucks the oil out via the dipstick tube. Turns out it works a whole lot better once you’ve warmed up the engine a bit...

Nice to have Kay on board again too!

Hmmm. Could Autumn be an under appreciated boating season? Clear blue skies, lovely 22 degrees, hardly any wind. Hardly any other boats out making waves. Out in the Bay was 0-5kts and 0-0.5M waves forecast. Couldn’t get much flatter than that!

The game plan was to take Russell, Nadine and Gemima for a run up the river, so that’s what we did!

03/05/2018

It was Ian’s Birthday today, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity for a run out in the Bay. Luckily Ian, Jen, Meg and Elsie were free!

30/04/2018

Just been working on the ‘Ships Log’.

Since June 2014, when she was re-launched, we’ve done more than 90 individual trips, and put 450 hours on the motor.

Not bad for a privately owned vessel!

28/04/2018

Delivered the stern seats to the Bay today. Yet to be adjusted on their bases. Blue masking tape is to stop the sika 252 adhesive going all over the stainless steel. It is horrible stuff and goes everywhere if you get it on your gloves...ask me how I know.

27/04/2018

Sams been a busy boy! The deck has been repainted, this time we are trying 1/4 strength Grey, with a white margin plank to tie in to the gunwhale rubbers and the new gloss white roofs. She’s looking like a whole new boat! Just need the new stern seats..

26/04/2018

More progress..

22/04/2018

Bear with me folks, thought I’d share some progress on the stern seats, just to show some of the detail.

24/03/2018

A little bit more progress on the stern seats (finally). The slots had some epoxy squeeze out which encroached on the slots. I decided to use a mill drill from the metal workshop, and it is dressing them up nicely. One side down...

08/03/2018

Well sometimes things don’t go to plan.

Unfortunately, we’ve got too many hurdles to jump, and we’ve realized we simply can’t get the ‘Mt Pleasant’ to Sydney in a state that we would be happy with, by the end of this month.

So we’ll keep plugging away with our ‘to do’ list and look forward to spending some more time on her cruising around Batemans Bay/Clyde River instead.

01/03/2018

More progress on the stern seats..

22/02/2018

Ships dog, Cookie, nicely setting off the 2 in progress seat bases. I’ll leave them to ‘relax’ for a couple of days before unscrewing them from the stainless, and then trim and cap off the ends. Zip ties are holding the inner strip while the epoxy sets up. Next job is the seat backs to replace the painted plywood. I’m not looking forward to that job...error possibilities are big!

18/02/2018

More piles of sawdust have been made..

13/02/2018

And we are afloat, and back in the pen..

10/02/2018

She’s coming together...
