So last night something a bit different for us at the Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel .
We provided the disco for the reunion of the men ( and their wives /partners) who had served on HMS Birmingham.
There were some brilliant speeches and a raffle/ auction which raised a lot of money for charity.
The disco had loads of great 60s/70s and 80s requests which had everyone dancing.
And towards the end of the night we had the men singing to the ladies the ships song “You’ve lost that loving feeling”.
And finally Rod Stewarts “ Sailing” to finish off a special night.

So recently there has been quite a bit of chat around Yacht Rock- which is soft rock from the 70s and 80s.
Well I have been playing this successfully for years lol!

The things you do as a Wedding DJ- Due to the earlier storm getting through to the venue for a wedding Disco on behalf of proved problematic (due to fallen trees blocking the 2 main routes to the Black Horse Beamish).
A frantically quick set up - thank goodness for wireless uplighters as we were on reduced power due to the storm damage - and we started on time- and what a great wedding for the Buckleys- including the longest conga in ages!

Don’t think I agree with all these choices- and some I haven’t had as first dance songs for quite some time- but an interesting read.
I once had 2 consecutive weddings - Friday and Saturday- where they both had picked “God only Knows” as the first dance song!

Picking the perfect song for your first dance at your wedding is always a tricky one.

Just had to post this- last night I was working for my friends at The Ultimate Wedding DJ and to try and keep everyone safe we were using song requests- which were a smash with loads of requests.
However I had to share this one that was handed to me by a little girl who was about 7/8 and I saw her write it out herself.
Gives you hope for the future when kids still love a good “rave” tune!

So that’s the end of the Xmas party season at Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel.
Had some brilliant requests from guests with a great festive atmosphere.
Even had guests dancing before the first course on some nights(photo below) - which shows we all need a party sometimes ( as well as a conga which we managed to get every night!)
Thanks to the had working bar staff who added to the nights by joining in with party dances.
So Merry Xmas to all who attended and helped to make it such fun!
