Our Story
Pacific Beachcomber SC (PBSC) boasts three decades of experience in extending quality hospitality to visitors to the islands of French Polynesia. Here is a brief look at our history:

1970 Pacific Beachcomber’s predecessor entity is created with the opening of the Tahiti Beachcomber Hotel in the township of Faa’a, near the international airport and approximately five miles outside Papee

te. At the time of construction, the hotel features a capacity of 211 lodging units (179 rooms and 32 overwater bungalows).

1987 Moana Beachcomber Hotel, one of the most famous hotels in Polynesia, opens on Bora Bora. Built at the edge of the exceptional lagoon off Matira point, it offers 51 bungalows, 41 of which are overwater.

1989 PBSC is sold to the Japanese group EIE. Under this new ownership, the company acquires the Moana Beachcomber Hotel on Bora Bora, as well as the Moorea Beachcomber Hotel, located on Tahiti’s idyllic “sister” island of Moorea. The Moorea hotel has a capacity of 142 units, including 44 garden bungalows and 50 overwater bungalows.

1993 The Tahiti Beachcomber Hotel is expanded, with the construction of a new bar restaurant at the edge of the lagoon, called The Lotus, and a sand bottom swimming pool.

1998 Richard Bailey purchases PBSC.

1998 The Maitai Polynesia Hotel in Bora Bora opens under the management of Hotel Management Services (HMS), a subsidiary of PBSC.

1999 The Tahiti Beachcomber Hotel is further expanded with the construction of two buildings, including 61 rooms and an additional bar.

2000 The Maitai Polynesia Bora Bora is expanded with the addition of 20 oceanview rooms, a beachfront restaurant, and a boutique.

2001 Bailey rebrands PBSC’s hotels under the InterContinental name.

2000-2004 An extensive refurbishment and expansion program is undertaken at PBSC’s three hotels in order to meet the 5-star standard of InterContinental hotels. These include:

InterContinental Tahiti Resort
Renovation of 174 rooms (out of 179) whose construction dates to the early 1970s
Renovation of the hallways
InterContinental Moorea Resort and Spa
Renovation of all bungalows
Renovation of buildingscomprising 51 rooms
InterContinental Bora Bora Le Moana Resort
Renovation of the 51 existing rooms (41 overwater bungalows and 10 beach bungalows)
Construction of an extension, including 9 overwater bungalows, 3 beach bungalows, a pool, 3 dayrooms, a spa, a barge for sea access, and a parking lot
2004 PBSC begins construction of a fourth hotel, the InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa.

2006 The InterContinental Bora Bora Resort & Thalasso Spa opens, with 96 overwater bungalows and 12 dayrooms. It is the first hotel in the world to use a pioneering system of deep-sea water air-conditioning (SWAC), which is also used in the Thalasso, Deep Ocean Spa, installed within the hotel.

2009 PBSC assumes operation of the m/s Paul Gauguin, the highest rated and longest continually-sailing luxury cruise ship in the South Pacific. PBSC also creates Pacific Maritime Agency (PMA), a division of Hotel & Management Services (HMS), to provide maritime services to the Paul Gauguin and other ships in French Polynesia.

2009 PBSC begins construction of The Brando on Tetiaroa

2010 PBSC acquires the 38-bungalow Maitai Rangiroa, located on one of the largest lagoons in the Southern Hemisphere.

2011 The Maitai Lapita Village in Huahine opens under the management of Hotel Management Services (HMS), a subsidiary of PBSC.

2011 PBSC sucessfully implements the 2nd SWAC installation on Tetiaroa. The pipe is the deepest in the world at 950 meters.

2012 PBSC acquires a new ship, the m/v Tere Moana, which began sailing in December 2012 to the Caribbean, Europe and Latin America.

2014 PSBC opens The Brando on July 1, 2014.

Laurent Bessou was General Manager of the Intercontinental Tahiti Resort and Spa, then called Parkroyal, from 1981 to 1988. His teams appreciated him for his leadership qualities and his passion. Ce lundi premier mai, le groupe Pacific Beachcomber a présenté 4 équipes lors de la 32ème édition du Triathlon des entreprises avec le coup d’envoi au Stade Boris Leontieff à Arue.

Cet événement, organisé par la Fédération tahitienne de triathlon, a réuni 300 équipes pour une course en relais composée de trois parties : 5km de course à pied, 16km de VTT et 600m de natation.

Cette matinée haute en émotion et en cardio fut l'occasion de réunir nos équipes autour des valeurs du sport. En équipes masculine, féminine et mixtes, nos représentants se sont donnés à fond pour porter haut les couleurs de Pacific Beachcomber. Notre équipe 100% masculine s'est d'ailleurs classée à la 67ème place 🏅

Qui relèvera le défi de battre ce record d'1h et 14min l'année prochaine ?💪

800 écoliers de Tahiti ont pu voir mardi dernier le documentaire « Bleu, un Océan de solutions » réalisé par la navigatrice Maud Fontenoy, première femme ayant traversé l’océan Pacifique à la rame.

Le documentaire met en lumière des intervenants engagés localement. Hinano Murphy, figure emblématique de Polynésie explique le lien presque charnel qui existe entre les Polynésiens et l'Océan. Il est notre garde-manger et notre pharmacie. L’étude des différentes espèces marines permet de grandes avancées scientifiques. Des chercheurs en partenariat avec Tetiaroa Society examinent les algues ou encore la cicatrisation chez les requins.

L'océan est une source d'énergie. Richard Bailey, président du groupe Pacific Beachcomber y présente le SWAC. Ce système utilisant l'eau des profondeurs pour climatiser l’eco resort de luxe Le Brando.

L'océan, c'est aussi une source d'oxygène et d'eau potable : sa distribution sur l’île de Bora Bora est assurée grâce à un désalinisateur.

Enfin, l’océan est une source d’émerveillement. L’association mana o te moana nous présente le monitoring des tortues à Tetiaroa, de la ponte au lâché des bébés.

Ce film souligne l’importance de préserver et s’inspirer de l’océan…

La Nuit des relais c'est un évènement accompli pour le groupe Pacific Beachcomber, au prix d’un peu de transpiration et avec beaucoup de bonne humeur. En effet, la team Beachcomber Running réunissant des volontaires de l’InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa, l’association Te mana o te moana, Transport Maritime de Tetiaroa, The Brando ont participé pour la première fois à cette course solidaire ce samedi 28 juillet pour soutenir l'égalité hommes/femmes et la défense des droits des femmes. Aux côtés de 35 équipes et ainsi plus de 300 participants nous avons fait 15 tours de piste et donc plus de 19km à cette soirée !

Inauguration de la fresque à la résidence Vaitavatava

Il y a quelques semaines nous avons participé à l'inauguration de la fresque à la résidence Vaitavatava. Ce projet de réhabilitation est le fruit d’une collaboration entre l' Office Polynésien de l'Habitat OPH et le collectif ONO'U, avec le soutien de notre groupe hôtelier Pacific BeachComber. La découverte de la fresque s’est faite au son des 𝑝𝑎ℎ𝑢 marquisiens et des artistes Aremistic & Iotua Pihaatae chantant la légende de Hotu Hiva. Cette princesse légendaire de Huahine est le thème central de cette impressionnante œuvre d’art de 700m2. Le président de l'association de la résidence, directeur général de l’OPH, maire de Papeete ainsi que le vice-président ont répondu présent, l’occasion de féliciter tous les jeunes talents. Les résidents de Vaitavatava Teihotaata Terai et Gary Nicole avec André Tahi, qui avait participé à un projet similaire à la résidence Luine ont pu s’exprimer aux côtés d’artistes comme Sarah Viault (Viault Art Tahiti), Heiarii Metua,Tearii Flohr, Richard Barri, Killian Ekouma (Hoanui) et Ravage Teremate Toanui. La soirée d'inauguration à l'InterContinental Tahiti Resort a été gracieusement offerte par le groupe Pacific BeachComber qui a exprimé sa fierté de faire partie du projet. La secrétaire de l’Association Vaitavatava Matairea Nui et les deux nouveaux artistes résidents ont pu faire un discours porteur pour la jeunesse polynésienne. La soirée s'est poursuivie avec la projection des films "L'art du lien social - Guido" et "Fresque Vaitavatava" et une représentation de danse illustrant la légende de Hotu Hiva et du dieu Tane
