This premium Tree Mahogany set was purchased by one of my clients who was commissioning a lifetime instrument after a tragic family incident. The guitar was meant to be the resolution of decades of family tragedy coming to an end. This particular client had no previous high end guitar experience but played his guitar many hours a day to deal with life stresses.

A famous guitar builder that I no longer represent was sent the wood in order to build a lifetime instrument from the set that also encompassed some of his life story within the grain and figure of the wood. The builder in turn took possession and promised a guitar to be made out of it. After waiting over a year with no definitive start time on the guitar it was clear that the build was either delayed or not happening. When questioned about the build, said builder declared that they would never make a "Tree" Mahogany guitar ever again. The material was not conducive to their sound. This I can understand and so can my client so we asked the builder to return the wood to the owner who already paid about 6K usd for the set.

My client received the wood and could not believe his eyes. He did not bother to open up the set and sent it to me. This video is of myself opening the package for the first time to see how it was packed for transit and to what means the builder went to in order to minimize risk in transit and support the extremely expensive material in transit.

Luckily, I have a good friend who is a young, very dedicated, extremely talented luthier who has offered to put this set back together and make it my clients dream guitar. Not only did he offer to build it, he purchased more material to pair with the theme in mind; healing and the concept that nothing is ever completely broken, it's just a matter of putting the pieces back together.

I look forward to showing you what this set becomes after this chaotic experience.

Khruanghin: Con Todo El Mundo

Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums; globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present their second album Con Todo El Mundo. Whereas their 2015 debut The Universe Smiles Upon You was influenced by ’60s and ’70s Thai cassettes and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk, Con Todo El Mundo hops east over India to take inspiration in similarly under discovered funk and soul sounds of the Middle-East, particularly from Iran.
