One last session before we close out our 15th season, hopefully the mild fall weather will continue. Thanks to all who visited us this season and we'll hope to see even more of you next year.
This weekend we traveled down to the Head of the H***h for one last race. One of the reasons I've gotten back into racing is to put my money where my mouth is. I'm rowing the technique I coach and though I haven't been quite as successful as I'd like at the Charles I've continued to be able to best younger, stronger rowers. I finished 4th again at the Charles in the 50+ 1x, tough headwind conditions that I unfortunately didn't handle as well as I should have. At the Head of the Occoquan, I raced the Champ 1x, 40+ 2x and 40+ 4x. My toughest competitior didn't race the 1x this year but in winning the race, I bested the woman who came in 4th in the 30 - 39 category at the Charles. Crazy how fast the 50+ field is! John raced his single too and with minimal training, he came in a respectable 5th place. At the H***h I raced my single, won my age group by over a minute and had the fasted adjusted time of all the women, 4th fastest raw time. Screaming fast conditions, tail wind with the current that made for some fast racing. I also got to jump in a mixed 8. At the start of the race, the speed coach showed 1:29 splits. Wow! I'm so used to using a speed coach in my single, I didn't know it could read so low! That was fun. No more racing this fall but I'll be back racing next fall, looking for whatever edge technique can give me while also training hard.
Over the winter, we'll continue to write technique articles for www.row2k.com. Hope you'll check them out and give us feedback.
