The Madu Ganga river of Sri Lanka is a very famous river with complex coastal ecosystem which can be mentioned as the combination of many mangroves and islands. Research shows that it can be considered as one of the last remaining mangrove forests of Srilanka.

There is no doubt that a tour in this river is really interesting and adventurous. It has a wide range of animals and plants which can be a great source of entertainment. You can see many interesting incidents in this river like:

*Monkeys eat fruit in the trees.
*Cormorants and Kingfishers wait patiently on the banks, eyeing the water for prey.

There are about 64 islands in the river and around 250 families are connected to the mainland with a very long foot bridge. Turtles and Tortoises of Sri Lanka - I Love Sri Lanka-Official

Turtles are rarely seen because the sea is their habitat and only the females come ashore and that too only after dark. The land turtles and land tortoises are also seen in frequently

Today there are 250 species of turtles on earth. Seven of these live in the ocean and are called sea turtles. The remaining 243 species live on land or in freshwater ponds and marshes. The terrestrial turtles, those that live solely on land, are called tortoises.

Five of the seven species of sea turtles in the world visit the shores of Sri Lanka to breed. They are the Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea), Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) and Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea).

There are three species of freshwater turtles and one terrestrial tortoise in Sri Lanka. The freshwater turtles are Parker’s Black Turtle (Melanochelys trijuga pakeri) Sri Lanka Black Turtle (Melanochelys trijuga thermalis) and the Soft or Flapshell turtle (Lissemys punctata punctata). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garcinia_gummi-gutta

Goraka(gummi-gutta) is used in cooking, including in the preparation of curries. The fruit rind and extracts of Garcinia species are called for in many traditional recipes, and various species of Garcinia are used similarly in food preparation in Sri Lanka, Assam (India), Thailand, Malaysia, Burma, and other Southeast Asian countries. In the Sr Lankan Ayurvedic medicine, "sour" flavors are said to activate digestion. The extract and rind of Goraka is a curry condiment in Sri Lanka & India. It is an essential souring ingredient in the southern Thai variant of kaeng som, a sour curry.

Goraka is used commercially in fish curing, especially in Sri Lanka and South India.

The trees can be found in forested areas and also are protected in plantations otherwise given over to pepper, spice, and coffee production.

At Kaluwagaha Watta we make our own coconut oil.

Coconut oil can be extracted through "dry" or "wet" processing. Dry processing requires the meat to be extracted from the shell and dried using sunlight (as seen in the picture) to create copra. The copra is then pressed, producing the coconut oil and a high-protein, high-fiber mash.
