A 36 year old female had an accident several weeks ago. It was raining, though not excessively when her car suddenly began to hydro-plane and literally flew through the air. She was not seriously injured but very stunned at the sudden occurrence! When she explained to the Police Officer what had happened, he told her something that every driver should know -

NEVER DRIVE IN THE RAIN WITH YOUR CRUISE CONTROL ON..

She thought she was being cautious by setting the cruise control and maintaining a safe consistent speed in the rain....
But the Police Officer told her that if the cruise control is on, your car will begin to hydro-plane when the tires lose contact with the road, and your car will accelerate to a higher rate of speed making you take off like an airplane. She told the Officer that was exactly what had occurred. The Officer said this warning should be listed, on the driver's seat sun-visor -

NEVER USE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE ROAD IS WET OR ICY,
Along with the airbag warning. We tell our teenagers to set the cruise control and drive a safe speed – but we don't tell them to use the cruise control only when the road is dry.

The only person the accident victim found who knew this, (besides the Officer), was a man who'd had a similar accident, totaled his car and sustained severe injuries..

NOTE: Some vehicles (like the Toyota Sienna Limited XLE) will not allow you to set the cruise control when the windshield wipers are on.

Even if you send this to 15 people and only one of them doesn't know about it, it's still worth it. You may have saved a life.

From the day we are born, all of us are taught to do the same thing. While we go to school, get a job and spend our weekends partying, the world is suffers. Or attention needs to shift to what's important, and all of us are going to have to change on the inside if we want to see our world change on the outside.

Unfortunately, Donnybrook has been sold and I do not think the new buyers will be carrying on as an open garden. My thanks to all who have supported the garden over the past few years (especially those from the various Garden Clubs). Happy gardening. I will leave this page open for a while longer

First lupin, iris & peony flowering + lotsa pics of others (have a close look ((zoom in on end of upper branches)) at Wolli the Wollemi - it is showing off its new first cones!)
Roses are very early (for Maydena) this year and should be blooming well within the next few weeks. Looks like liliums are way ahead of normal, too)

Here are a couple of shots of the brook (as in 'Donnybrook') which bisects the garden and has been raging most of the winter/spring. In fact, has broken its banks a couple of times.
Am very worried about the fate of my dahlia tuber/bulbs as I don't lift any bulbs ( I already know that I have lost at least 8-10)

At last, great to see some colour (thanks to thousands of blooming bulbs. Here are a few

Since the drought ended (May 1st), we have had in excess of 680mls (17"). Just returned from a couple of weeks up north to find garden saturated from floods, Creek has broken its banks a couple of times and done a bit of damage (very worried about dahlias as I don't lift the tubers - or any corms or bulbs either).
Thank goodness for hellebores who at last have added some colour to the place (however, why can't some breeder come up with a hellebore whose flowers stand up instead of drooping?)
And, of course, the 1st daffodils and jonquils have made their appearance
