🎓 Oxford & Cambridge walking tours with
alumni guides. Why Footprints Tours? We provide tours of Oxford which don’t put you to sleep. Who is Footprints Tours?
(80)
Footprints Tours was created to show you the best of British history, and not to bore you to death with stuffy, dry academic tours. Yes, we want to tell you about the English Reformation, but we also want to tell you about how a professor at Oxford University tried to eat his way through the whole animal kingdom (a mole was his least favourite)! Footprints Tours is a student start up company, crea
ted to show a more fun side of Oxford with our professional trained guides. We’re not a big faceless organisation, but a group of students and locals determined to show visitors the best Oxford has to offer. Simple as that. Which tour of Oxford should I do? Obviously we think all our tours are great/life altering experiences. A walking tour lets you go down those small alleyways, but a bike tour let you see even more! We also give you the bike for the day, so it represents incredible value for money. So, why not do a Make A Day Of It , which incorporates both, for the most complete Oxford experience? It’s a difficult decision, but either way, don’t worry too much because you’ll have a great time with us on any of our tours. There is always the popular English Ale Trail to drown your troubles…

When in Cambridge visit Kings’s College Chapel.
Kings College Chapel is one of the most beautiful buildings in England 🏴 and home to the world famous Kings College Choir. 🎶
Built between 1446 and 1515, during the War of the Roses 🌹 , the chapel is one of the finest examples of Perpendicular Gothic Architecture in the world.
The chapel was designed by Henry VI, who wanted it to be a university counterpart to Eton College. However, it actually took five kings 🤴🤴🤴🤴🤴to finish the construction of the chapel:
👑 While construction began during the reign of Henry VI, the workers are said to have laid down their tools as soon as they heard that the King was taken at the beginning of the War of the Roses
👑👑Later on, both Edward IV and Edward V contributed money to the construction, but progress was halted due to the war.
👑 Finally the death of Richard III brought an end to the War of Roses.
👑Then during the reign of Henry VII construction of the chapel was completed.

During the Civil War, the chapel was used as training ground by Oliver Cromwell’s troops. 🫡 The Graffiti left by these soldiers is still visible on the north and south walls near the altar.
💒 Chapel services are held at 5:30pm Mon-Saturday, and 10:30am and 3:30pm on Sunday.
🎟️ You can buy tickets on their website to visit the chapel
Or
👣 Access into the chapel is included on our University Tour which you can book on our website.

The Easter weekend is upon us! 🐣Here are our top 5 things to do in Oxford this bank holiday weekend. 5. On Friday treat yourself to a traditional hot cross bun. Our favourite bun is made by @barefootoxford ☕️.4. The springs flowers are in full bloom around Oxford. Take a stroll 🚶🏼♀️ in University Parks or Christ Church Meadows for free. Otherwise buy a ticket to the botanical gardens @oxfordbga 🌸3. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, then @christchurchoxford is a must! 🧙🏻Explore the hall, the cloisters and the stairway with an audio guide. You can also see the stunning cathedral. We highly recommend booking in advance. 2. There are plenty of places to have a drink in Oxford. If you fancy a cocktail, go to the @thealiceoxford in the famous Randolph Hotel🍸 If a pint is more your style, head to the notorious @turf_tavern 🍻1. And…. join us on a walking tour 💚 We believe in sharing our knowledge of the city in a fun and energetic way…(we can even keep teenagers engaged🧑🎤).The tours run every day 11am and 2pm. The Crocodile Club was founded in 1896. 🐊Brasenose College (seen here) still has the club’s initial rules, which were actually handwritten by The 39 Steps author John Buchan. 📝One of the weird rules of Crocodile Club was that ‘no gentleman who parts his hair in the middle could be a member’…. 🚫Another rule is that all meetings of the club had to be conducted in the presence of a real crocodile….🐊This wasn’t possible so a stuffed crocodile belonging to one of the students had to do. He kept the specimen in his college dorm and brought it along. By 1921 pedants had pointed out it was probably an alligator, and the club was ruled that it couldn’t continue until an actual crocodile could be sourced. 🤷What is the strangest Oxbridge club you’ve heard about?.....#oxford #oxforduniversity #discoveroxfordshire #visitoxford #WalkingtoursOxford #discoveroxford #oxfordstory #wackywednesdsy #wednesday #Humpday #secretclub #funfact #footprintstours
It’s one of our favourite events of the year… The Oxford vs Cambridge Boat Race. 🎉Here is our top 5 fun facts.1. The first race was in 1829. It’s a tradition today, that the boat race presidents toss a 1829 gold sovereign coin, to determine what side of the river the crews will be racing on. 🪙2. John Snagge was the BBC commentator for the race in 1949. He famously said, “I can’t see who’s in the lead, but it’s either Oxford or Cambridge…” 👀3. This year a woman, Anna O’Hanlon, will be the cox for the Oxford men’s, and a man, James Trotman, will be coxing the Cambridge women’s .🚣🏻♀️4. In 1912 there was such bad weather that both the Oxford and Cambridge boats sank…the same year as the Titanic met its fate (spooky)🌧️5. Hugh Laurie rowed for Cambridge in 1980. However, Oxford came out as the winners - and Hugh went on to become a famous pretend doctor. 🩺Who do YOU want to win the 2023 race? Comment below 👇 ~ The Gemini Boat Race 2023 ~📆Sunday 26th March 📺 Bbc 🕓Women’s: 4pm* approx 🕔Men’s: 5pm* approx .......#Oxford #Cambridge #OxfordCambridgeBoatrace #rowing #bbc #GeminiBoatRace #Oxbridge #5funfacts #theboatrace #theboatrace2023 #2023 #love #inst #reels #weekend #Sunday #instagood #fun #history #sports #footprintstours #oxfordtours #cambridgetours
The Deer Park or The Grove, has been the home to fallow deers for over 300 years. 🦌It can be found through the gate, across the bridge, next to the New Building. 🗺️ There is tale that during the meat shortage of WW2, Magdalen College’s deer were reclassified as vegetables to escape requisition by the Ministry of Food 🥦🥒🥕🌽- unfortunately there is no proof to this, but sounds quirky enough to be an Oxford story…. 📖 If you’re in Oxford over Easter 🐣 we highly recommend visiting Magdalen, where you can visit the beautiful grounds and see the deers at their best! Adult £9.50/Child £8.50Comment below if you have any deer stories for us 👇🦌#oxford #oxforduniversity #discoveroxford #oxfordstory #magdalencollege #wackywednesdsy #wednesday #travel #travelinspo #love #instagram #visitengland #funfact #trivia #historyfacts #footprintstours #FootprintsOxford #Sandeman #FreeWalkingTours #University #Vacation #Holiday

Philip Pullman, the author, studied English at Exeter College, Oxford. 👨🎓He published Northern Lights in 1995, then completed the trilogy in 2000. ✨📚It has since gone on to be adapted by Hollywood, The Golden Compass, and a successful HBO/BBC series. 🎬Exhibition ends April 23rd 2023.💚Like and save the reel for your Oxford adventure
