This 1000-year-old cathedral is a visual feast, with its different architectural styles reflecting the many cultures that have ruled Palermo over the centuries. And the views from the rooftop are simply breathtaking.

The Pretoria Fountain, known as the 😮Fountain of Shame, is one of the Palermo's main attractions that has become famous for pi**ing off Catholics, and for good reason.

With backsides and detailed ge****ls on clear display, imagine the reaction of a population that was predominantly devoutly Catholic in 1584.

Why Visit Sicily's Aeolian Islands?🇮🇹

01/07/2022

📢 For those coming to Palermo next weekend (2 to 5 June)

Thursday June 2 is 🇮🇹Italian Republic Day. It’s a public holiday.

The day commemorates the institutional referendum in 1946, in which Italians decided on the form of government following the fall of Fascism.

⛔On this day, public offices will be closed as well as many shops, restaurants and attractions.

As the holiday falls on a Thursday, many locals take additional “bridge days” in order to enjoy a long weekend.

They usually spend these days out of town, mainly at local beach destinations such as San Vito Lo Capo, the Egadi Islands or Cefalù.

For this reason, the city will be half-empty with not so many locals around.

🤩I myself will not be in town; I’ll go to Favignana. This is a spectacular little island with crystal-clear waters.

If you have the chance, visit this little gem and you will not be disappointed.

Hugs,
Nico

IF YOU DON’T DO AN APERITIVO, YOU CAN’T SAY YOU’VE TRULY BEEN TO ITALY🇮🇹

Technically, an aperitivo is a pre-meal drink specifically meant to whet your appetite but in reality, it’s much more than that.

New loves or friendships, big announcements, business deals… In Sicily we do everything during an aperitivo.

Just think that I met my ex-girlfriend during an aperitivo, and we even broke up during an aperitivo.

Massimo theater is where The Godfather's daughter, Mary Corleone, died!

If you are a fan of "The Godfather" series, you will surely remember the famous scene where Mary Corleone is murdered on the stairs of the Massimo Theater in Palermo.

For this reason alone, it is worthwhile to come visit. In reality though, there are many more reasons to visit.

In addition to being 🥇the largest opera house in Italy and the third in Europe, the theatre also has a unique architectural style and a remarkable historical importance that can’t be ignored.

Furthermore, if you are a fan of the paranormal, there is also another story that might intrigue you.

It is said that there is a 👻ghost, who is a nun, within the walls of the theater that annoys skeptical tourists.

A cheap Way to rent a car in Sicily🚗

A lot of you keep asking me about cheap ways to rent a car in Sicily. So, I investigated and came across an interesting website called “Auting” which lets you rent a car at a cheaper rate directly from the locals in Italy.

This is a sort of Airbnb for cars which allows anybody to rent out their car to make some extra cash.

It’s enough to go to Auting.it, you choose the location where you want to pick up and drop off your car (It works only in italy), and then you can see all the cars available for the time range you choose.

I learned about this website from two local friends who are renting out their cars in Palermo through this particular website.

I’ll leave their profile links in the description if you want to look at their cars. The cars are not new or in mint condition, but they work just fine, and have all you need to get around Sicily without any problems.

At any rate, you will find lots of other cars.

The biggest church in the world with mosaics😮

We are talking about 6400 square meters of handmade, shiny golden mosaics. I don’t know if you can grasp how big this is, but it’s like a football pitch.

According to an old saying, “In the Duomo of Monreale, the believer sees the beauty of his belief. The non-believer is persuaded by the beauty into believing.”

The Duomo is built as one of those illustrated children's storybooks that gets into your head and never gets out. You place yourself at the end of the centre of the Cathedral, and, as you would do with a book, you look left and then right.

The mosaics tell you the Bible’s stories in a way that inspires you to behave according to the will of God. It's easy to read and understand, and it is also easy to be persuaded and inspired.

A breathtaking rooftop view over Palermo old town😍

First a church, then a mosque, and then a church again🤔.

The cathedral of Palermo has about 1000 years of turbulent history behind it, not to mention a schizophrenic fusion of different architectural styles.

For thousands of tourists, these reasons are already enough to pay a visit.

But even if you are indifferent to architecture and have never leafed through a history book, I still recommend popping over here for one reason.

It offers one of the most beautiful panoramas over the oldest part of Palermo. It will leave you speechless.

When scary means delicious😋

Palermo is the city of street food. According to Forbes, Sicily has the best (and oldest) street food culture in Europe and the third best in the entire world.🏆

In most cases, street food dishes in Sicily are simple but very tasty plant-based, seafood or meat items that are fried or grilled.

But there are many other instances when the ingredients might sound a little disgusting.

As someone once told me, if you skip these, you are a donkey😜
The places I mention in the video are UNESCO sites.

For those who don’t know, UNESCO sites are cultural and/or natural sites of ‘Outstanding Universal Value’, which are important across countries and generations.

Translated? You get to see them.

As my history professor once told me: “UNESCO sites are like those few fundamental chapters of a history book, if you don't even take the time to leaf through those few pages, you truly are a donkey!🐴”

This is just a quick update about Covid tests for those arriving at the Palermo Airport.

Lately, I’ve been getting tons of emails from you asking if taking a swab test at the airport is mandatory once you get in. As there is no official webpage with clear instructions in Italian, let alone in English🤦‍♂️, I went to the airport myself to get information.

Starting from April 1st, you will only need a green pass to enter Sicily. That’s it. There will be no need to get tested at the airport. You get in and then you can head to your lodgings without getting tested, unless you want to.

However, just be aware that this guideline could change. These are crazy times, and we can never know how long rules will last. We have to be patient.

Until March 31st, only those coming from the United States, France, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Greece and the Netherlands will need to get tested for Covid at the airport when they arrive. If you are coming from these countries, once you get to the arrival area, you will see signs pointing to Covid points. Follow the signs and you will meet somebody that will assist you with getting tested. Getting tested is free. It should take about 30 minutes.

If you aren't coming from any of the countries I mentioned, you won't need to get tested. You will be free to go to the city. A presto 😉
