THE MILLENNIAL HUARANGO

In the town of Santa Cruz, in the west; There is a carriage trail that leads to one of the oldest trees in South America, it is El Huarango Milenario de Palpa.

The huarango is a type of wild acacia, similar to the carob tree, which has the ability to survive in the deserts, due to its pivoting and aerial roots.

This particular tree has been studied by the National University of San Marcos, by the Institute of Traditional Medicine (INMETRA), and by the National Agrarian University of La Molina.

By counting the concentric rings of its stem and roots, INMETRA determined in 1998 that this capricious vegetable colossus had lived 1,064 years and has been declared a living symbol of traditional Peruvian medicine.

Huarango Milenario starts a path to the south east, this road leads to the Lost City of Huayuri, one of the most important tourist attractions of the Province of Palpa.
