Desenzano is on the southern banks of Lake Garda with excellent transport links to several other towns by regular ferries across the lake and also the cities of Milan, Verona and Venice are also easily reached by train.
There are plenty of cafes along the lake’s waterfront and marina area where you can sit back and watch the world go by, or in the evening party the night away. The town has many classic old-style villas, many of which are now small family run hotels. The historic streets lead up to the Castello, where you can enjoy views over the town, whilst taking in the architecture of the 16th century cathedral.
In the side streets you will find well-loved high street shops as well as smaller designer boutiques. The town also boasts three large beach areas which attract tourists and locals alike during the summer months.

Bardolino is a pretty town on the edge of the lake, with pastel shade houses, idyllic shopping streets and a wealth of cafes & restaurants along the dockside enabling you to sip on a limoncello spritz watching the boats go by. Anyone who is interested in wine will enjoy visiting the vineyards that are in the hills that surround the town, as well as enjoying the wine tasting opportunities on offer. The town hosts various festivals throughout the summer, along with a weekly open-air concert on the steps of the church in the centre of town.
You can use the ferry to reach other towns or take a 3 km walk along the lake side promenade to the town of Garda, well worth the stroll to see some unrivalled views of the lake.

Sirmione, described by some as the jewel in the crown of Lake Garda, personally I have to agree. With its enchanting medieval castle fortress and moat, Scaligero Castle guards the entrance to the historic town centre. The old town sits on a narrow 3km peninsula which juts out into the lake, so it is surrounded by water which makes for some fantastic views and photo opportunities. You will find cobbled streets, squares filled with little cafes and ice cream parlours selling every flavour of ice cream or gelato you can think of.

Lake Garda is the jewel in the crown of the Italian Lakes. The largest lake in Italy is majestic, with its crystal clear water, idyllic water side towns, rugged alpine views and lush countryside. The southern end of the lake is ideal for anyone wanting to visit different towns, each of which has its own unique charm. For anyone wanting to dine alfresco, soak up the sites, visit vineyards to go wine tasting or simply sit and watch the world go by whilst sipping an expresso, Hugo or Limoncello spritz there are plenty of cafes and bars in the pretty towns around the lake to choose from.
For those wanting a more active holiday the northern end of the lake offers the opportunity for a more active holiday. With walking routes around the lake, you can take in the stunning scenery. Climb the heights of Mount Baldo, whether by foot or by cable car, it is well worth the effort for the birds eye view of the lake. Popular water sports available on the lake include sailing, windsurfing, paddle boarding and kite surfing. Many hotels rent out bicycles that you can ride along traffic free promenades enabling you to enjoy the stunning lake side scenery. If you are more serious about cycling you can cycle round the lake, or part of it with pre planned off road routes, full of challenges and thrills.
