The new 737 MAX AT (Advanced Technology) winglet is the most efficient ever designed for a production airplane (as quoted by Boeing). The winglets are said to offer up to a 2.2% reduction in fuel usage, potentially saving carriers hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
I had the opportunity to try out this new aircraft on my trip from Melbourne to Sydney. The flight was impressively clean and notably quieter compared to the usual 737-800 planes.
Virgin Australia has also increased its pipeline of new Boeing MAX family aircraft, with six more MAX-8s scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2024, bringing the airlineโs total number of MAX-8s to 14 and the total planned latest generation aircraft to 39. (as announced on 24th Nov)
