🐕 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT BRINGING DOGS INTO THE USA 🐩

Here is some important information to know if you ever travel with your pets, specifically dogs – south of the border. The United States is tightening regulations around bringing dogs into the country in an effort to prevent rabies from being reintroduced.

Starting August 1st, all dogs entering the U-S must be: at least six months of age; microchipped, and appear healthy upon arrival. Each dog must also be accompanied by a receipt for a U-S Centres for Diseases Control Dog Import Form, which is submitted online.

There are additional regulations depending on where a dog has been within the past six months. Dogs coming from countries with a high risk of dog rabies must be protected against the virus. There is a full list on the CDC’s website. These rules will more closely align with the World Organization for Animal Health’s existing standards for the international transport of dogs from high-risk countries.

The U-S C-D-C encourages travellers to use their new personalized Q and A ‘DogBot’ on their website. This can help folks figure out which regulations apply to their pet based on travel dates, where the dog is traveling from, and where it was vaccinated.

Again - these changes are coming up fast and could impact anyone planning to do any cross-border travel with their dog later this summer. Especially over the B-C day long weekend. - you don’t want to be caught off guard.
