She wasn’t on our family’s radar a few short days ago, but God has a way of placing circumstances and people in your lives at just the right time.

This Saturday, September 21st, the International Association of Fire Fighters will be holding their annual memorial ceremony at the IAFF Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial, hosted by Colorado Springs Firefighters.

Please take a moment this weekend to reflect on the sacrifices the men and women on the walls made for the rest of us and consider taking action for their families by contributing to Folds of Honor, your local FOH chapter, and/or your local FD welfare fund.

On this Patriot Day, let us remember the heroes who responded to the cowardly attacks, those who performed search and rescue during the aftermath, those who came to our nation's defense in our armed forces, and the families impacted by all of the above.

It has been a minute for creating and publishing a video! There have been a few 30 second shorts here and there, but time has been devoted to helping start the Folds of Honor Iowa chapter. The International Association of Firefighters holds the IAFF Fallen Firefighters Memorial the third Saturday of each September. For the 2024 Memorial Service, the Wandering Firefighter was able to attend and pay respects to his coworker, friend, and mentor as a member of their department’s honor guard. Each Friday evening, before the ceremony, the IAFF Pipes and Drums participate in a parade on Colorado Springs’s Tejon Street. Here is one of the views of their powerful rendition of Amazing Grace. Had a great time at the 2nd Annual Central Iowa Sports HR Derby! Thanks to all who came out to help support Folds of Honor ! My cheering section left me after a disappointing first round in the adult HR division, but the baseball swing that hasn’t happened in about two decades came alive for round two…lol! More on the night’s events to come :)

Baseball and Folds of Honor just go well together! In addition to the Central Iowa Sports HR Derby event for Folds of Honor on May 24th, here is more info on the "Swipes for Sirens" campaign that the Iowa Cubs and Hawkeye Medical Services LLC/ IV Infusion Therapy are doing for Folds of Honor! For every stolen base, Hawkeye Medical Services will donate $4 to Folds of Honor! More info on the September culmination of the I-Cubs and Hawkeye Medical Services campaign coming soon... You may already be aware, but an official chapter of Folds of Honor will be formed in the state of Iowa over the next few months! If you're a business or individual who wants to get involved in the early goings, volunteer, have a desire to contribute in other ways, or want to collaborate to come up with a creative event to help the families of our veterans and first responders in Iowa, let's have a conversation! Our board members are ready to get to work and we can't wait until that "coming soon" message on FOH's national website is replaced with our official chapter info!

Here is sort of a funny video of me waking up from my first ever colonoscopy...lol It is a lighthearted video, but comes with sort of a heavier message. I have several coworkers and friends battling different cancers. They have provided me with somewhat of a wake-up call when it comes to my health and getting screened early and often. The thing is, some of their cancers are considered "on-the-job" and some of them are not. The same duties, the same exposures to carcinogens, just different manifestations of cancer. They deserve better than that. Hopefully the video makes you laugh, but if you get the chance, please use the link in the comments to send a message to our legislators urging them to make ALL cancers "on-the-job" for firefighters in Iowa, not just 5% of cancers. It'll take about 30 seconds :) Thank you for the support!
