living life on the edge (of Victoria Falls) 🌈

spending the afternoon hanging out and swimming on the LITERAL edge of the largest waterfall in the world was one of the craziest and coolest experiences of my entire life. I can't even believe we did that.. it still doesn't feel real. 🤯

Special shout out to for getting me to the edge as I grappled with a million and one internal and external emotions of feae, anxiety, and fomo 😅 and to the lovely for the most incredible surprise visit during our stay 👌

Safari Round ✌️

We switched from the dry, open landscape of Timbavati to the green, dense Sabi Sands and spent a few more days on safari with another incredible team (Jonas & Thesepo) who spotted the infamous Big Five for us in one short day (not a small feat!) 🐘

Highlights of this safari segment included seeing active leopards, lions, & cheetahs, watching a herd of mothers and baby elephants interact with each other, enjoying the amenities at our incredible lodge, and indulging in a few gin and tonics during our nightly sundowners in the bush! 🐆

We couldn't have asked for a more incredible first safari 😍

Seeing elephants, rhinos, wild dogs, lions, leopards, giraffes, zebras, and buffalo not once but multiple times during our short stay was simply beyond belief. 🦁

We even had elephants walking through our camp on multiple occasions - once to take a drink right from the pool 🐘

Words can't properly describe the excitement of seeing some of the world's most iconic animals in the wild and my photos barely do it any justice. 🦏

A huge thank you to our guide/tracker team (Juju & Douglas!) and for giving us the safari experience of a lifetime! 💕

Caribbean Blues ⛵️🌊🐠

Last month I attended WITS by and kicked off my trip with a long overdue reunion with my Midwestern kindred spirit - - and a catamaran trip on the turquoise blue Caribbean waters to the island of Icacos. 🏝

We had a wonderful day swimming, snorkeling, socializing with other likeminded women in travel and enjoying and a few too many rum punches 🥂

A huge thank you to for hosting us!

Another Stout ski trip for the books ⛷️🍻

Between the nightly hot tub sessions, espresso martinis, karaoke performances, befriending the waitstaff, and chugging way too many shaft-on-drafts to count... we also skiied Banff's Big Three, hiked through the frozen Johnston Canyon, and ice skated on Lake Louise. ❄️

Happy: spending time with everyone in the mountains 🏔

Crappy: starting every morning with a raging hangover 🍺

Hate: that it's over 💔 and 🏆

Can't wait for next year!

Exploring an ice cave inside of one of the largest glacier in Iceland that's also on top of an active volcano 🤯

Visiting the Katla Ice Cave involved an off road journey to the edge of Mýrdalsjökull glacier where we strapped on some crampons and hiked over ice to the entry point where we had to climb 2 stories to the mouth of the cave. 💪

From there we admired the brilliantly blue cave walls and textures and then navigated a series of tunnels, planks, and ropes over rushing glacial rivers inside the glacier itself. 🧊

Naturally, photos can't even compare to the experience itself. The only way I can describe it is absolutely epic. 💯

Last month I had the pleasure of leading a group of 8 wonderful women from The Women's Travel Tribe on a tour around Iceland. 🇮🇸

We spent 9 days cruising along the south coast admiring glaciers, volcanos, black sand beaches, stunning waterfalls, impossibly deep canyons and brilliantly blue ice caves before flying north to Akureyri where we chased the northern lights, rode horses along the largest fjord in Iceland, and fully immersed ourselves in rural living complete with a local sheep farmer for a guide 🐑

It was such an awesome adventure and I already know I'll be returning to this incredible island one day 💕

(perhaps in the summer months when the weather isnt quite so extreme) ❄️

I don't know if we're really brave or really crazy (or maybe a healthy mix of both) but we knew we couldn't leave South America without making a trip to the Amazon Rainforest.

So natually, we signed up for a 5 day/4 night camping/canoeing trip into the depths of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. ⛺️

It took us a full day of travel from Iquitos to get to the reserve including a 2 hour taxi ride, 20 minute tuktuk ride, and nearly 5 hour boat ride but it was completely worth it. 🚣‍♂️

We spent every minute of each day actively exploring and experiencing the wild Amazon - sunrise paddles and hikes, afternoon swims in the middle of the river, visiting local villages that have been grandfathered into the protected area, boating and dolphin watching, bushwacking and getting a *little* lost, spearfishing and regular fishing for piranhas, night paddling in a homemade canoe, fending off relentless mosquitos and flies, and hanging out enjoying our incredible views and meals at camp. 🛶

We saw so many incredible birds, mammals, fish, and insects as well as unique and interesting plants with the highlights including pink and grey river dolphins (or bufeos as the locals call them), giant river otters, a poisonous fer-de-lance snake, peruvian pink-toed tarantulas, squirrel monkeys, red howler monkeys, a three-toed sloth, and too many macaws and amazon king fishers to count amongst so many other awesome things. 🐬

The Amazon was nothing short of incredible and we both feel so lucky to have gotten to experience it in such a real and authentic way 💕

We hiked all the way to the bottom of the world's second deepest canyon just to turn around and climb 10,700 feet back out of it at 4:45 a.m. the next morning. 🥾

The views, incredible! Condor spotting, top notch! Rewarding physical challenge, you bettcha! Would I do it again? Heck nope!❌️

This is my hot take from South America because everyone and their mother seems to "highly recommend" hiking Colca Canyon. 🔥

In my personal opinion, there's just something way too awful and demoralizing about walking down a huge canyon wall only to hike back up it. Especially when the end view is the same as you started at before all the effort! 😵

I love hiking but this may have been my first and last ever canyon hike ✌️

Alright, rant over. A special thank you to Allie and Travis who had to listen to me complain "this is stupid" more times than I can count. 🙃

Nothing for thousands of miles but salt.. lots and lots of salt. 🧂

It's truly unbelievable just how expansive the Uyuni Salt Flat is. Over 4,000 square miles of expansive salt flat dotted with a few small islands and some sporadic salt water holes. 🤯

Maybe it's because we're from the northwoods, but the whole landscape reminded us a lot of ice fishing back in Wisconsin. We had to keep reminding ourselves that we were in Bolivia and not on a lake back home...😅

Sunset Magic on Salar de Uyuni 🌅

At the end of our third day, we arrived at very anticipated Uyuni Salt Flats just in time for the most spectacular sunset. 🤩

Our guide, Raul, pulled out all the stops with celebratory drinks and snacks while we watched the sky fill with brilliant colors over the bright white salt flats. 🍻

We danced to The Weekend blaring from the car speakers just to stay warm and laughed easily with our fellow travelers - especially at a satirical proposal inspired by the beauty of the moment 💍

Salar de Uyuni has been a long unchecked item on my bucket list and our first impression of this natural wonder couldn't have been more perfect. 😇

It feels like we say this too often... but the Atacama Desert is actually one of the most insane and indescribable places we've ever been. 🤯

We spent 2 full days overlanding through a desert reserve on our way to Salar de Uyuni with nothing to do but gaze in wonder out our land cruiser'⁸s windows at the otherworldly landscapes filled with volcanos and geothermal formations amidst a vibrant chromatic color scheme. We made multiple stops along the way at different lakes brilliantly colored by various natural factors and minerals including borax, sulphur, copper, and arsenic. 🌋

During our time in the park, we also saw an incredible amount of wildlife given the harsh living conditions including three types of flamingos, multiple species of ducks, an endemic ostrich, chinchillas, domesticated lamas, and wild vicuñas among others. 🦩

Reserva Nacional de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa is not a place we'll soon forget and can't recommend highly enough for anyone headed to Bolivia! 🇧🇴

We're typically not city people, but we absolutely loved La Paz! 🇧🇴

The people, culture, street food, and overall liveliness of the city really did it for us. It felt like chaos and peace all at the same time and definitely kept us on our toes. 🔥

We spent 4 days exploring the various markets and neighborhoods, sampling tons of street food (our favorites including sopa de mani, papas rellanas & anticuchos), examining different remedies and offerings in the witches market while simultaneously learning exactly how superstitious Bolivians are, visiting the General Cemetery where the graves are stacked one on top of another, and taking in incredible views of the city while riding the excellent teleferico system up to the very top. 🚡

La Paz is a vibrant mix of past and present as well as indengenous and modern and we definitely hope to return one day! ❤️

WE BIKED DOWN THE MOST DANGEROUS ROAD IN THE WORLD 🚲

With a maxium width of 3 meters in the best sections and far less in others, zero guard rails or precautionary infastructure, and cliff edges with drop offs of up to 800 meters at some points - the "death road" earned its name from its heartbreaking average of 2 deaths per day during its peak use from car crashes and vehicles plummeting over the edge. 🚗

Thankfully, the Bolivian goverment has since built a newer and much safer road to bypass the infamous "death road.". Now, the route is basically just used by local villages established along the road and tourists looking for a challenge and adrenaline rush (aka us). 👌

We started our death road ride at 15,300 feet in the snowcapped Andean Mountains and descended over 10,000 feet through clouds, over loose gravel, and under multiple waterfalls and ended 30 miles later in the thick of the Amazon jungle. 🔥

It was an incredible ride and an absolute blast. We would 100% send it again 🤘
